Not much, but my son is teeny tiny and takes forever to go through sizes - he just turned 2 and he's still in 12-18 pants, although they're starting to get pretty short on him. This past summer (16-19 months) I had to go get him 3-6 month shorts, because everything else fell off his skinny butt.

@bluestriped bee: 0% were never worn, but 90% are bought by MIL so I don't have much opportunity or neccessity to shop.

We blew through sizes, by end of june LO was in t-shirts and cloth diapers. I had a lot of fall clothing friends passed on, but none of it fit by the time we needed it. I pretty much bought all his fall/winter stuff (LO 11 months and in 18-24 or 2T) and he wears it all. We have some fancy things I need to put him in to take pictures to give the the people who gifted it.... LO2 is going to be opposite seasons, bad planning.

Lately it's been really bad, 50% for my daughter and 70% for my son. Luckily that doesn't reflect a lot of $$ because my daughter's stuff was all thrift shop and my son's were all hand me downs. My daughter decided she only wears dresses now so she hasn't worn any of her tops or pants except her jeggings under dresses. We were mainly given wrong season clothes for DS from 3 people so we had a ton of wrong stuff. I only pulled out the potentially acceptable stuff and we've been too lazy to put him in anything besides sleepers. I'm not even sure the kid has toes.

Maybe 20%? I return a lot of gifts to exchange for future sizes/needs. I over shopped when I was still TG so lots of boyish clothes I just am keeping for LO #2. I have enjoyed dressing T a little girlier than I thought I would.

Maybe 5-10%? But we got a couple of huge boxes of hand-me-down clothes so we definitely had more clothes then we needed in the smallest few sizes. We didn't really have things that we bought new that were not used.

There were some dressier things I bought DS in newborn sizes that he never wore... cute sweaters and baby jeans that were adorable, but not actually practical to wear!
Some of the hand-me down or 2nd hand stuff I bought, I decided later I didn't like either so gave them away (rather than pack and not wear with baby 2 either).
Now I don't buy too far ahead so I know the size for the season and stick to comfy clothes unless I know he's going to have a reason to wear a dressier outfit.

DD only had stuff that didn't get worn b/c she got a lot of hand me downs, and also gifts, and I also buy stuff. So stuff I didn't like as much didn't really get used. Also when she was an infant, she didn't go out much (winter baby) so she really didn't need to get dressed daily...

A lot of "dressy" stuff doesn't get worn. I don't buy it because he hates non-comfy clothes, and we don't have many places that require it. So most things like that get maybe one wear.

Now that he's almost two and I buy most clothes myself, he wears it all a lot.

We had some waste when he was younger, but very little now. Before he was born I didn't have a great handle on what things I'd like to put him in. But now I go at the beginning of each season and buy a bunch of stuff and he wears it all to death.

We had a lot that wasn't used. My girls have nine aunts and a shopaholic grandfather. I rarely have to buy anything for them. Unfortunately this means a lot of off season sizes and far more fancy dresses than any non-mobile baby has business owning.
The waste has gotten better now that my oldest stays in one size longer.

What percentage or how much of the clothes were never worn?

With the twins we prefer one pieces (PJs/sleepers) and sometimes put them in onesies and pants. We didn't dress them up that often in dress clothes (dresses and dress shirts & pants) so they weren't worn either. Pictures with Santa was the last time they were dressed up.

Also, I had a lot of short sleeve onesies that were not used because they were were born in the fall and it was too cold to wear. We did want to get use out of them so we got long sleeved shirts to put under them. But putting an extra item on was definitely not high on my list so I preferred putting them in long sleeved onesies. DH is always hot and putting them in s/s onesies and I always have to put socks or put a cardigan on top.

I know one tip is to not wash anything until it needs to be used but I like to pre-wash everything I buy.

So do you usually have a lot, some, very little that were unused?

ETA: Oh, I did recently learn that 3 months means 0-3m so I didn't get much use out of that size because I started them too late. Looking into the future, some of the clothes I got at consignment are probably the wrong season because of this sizing issue.
