I would maybe start with buying (or borrowing from the library) a book about friends moving. Read it a few times and then tell him that his buddies are moving too.

This is happening for my almost 2 yr old in June and I am dreading it! We had another friend move from gym day care and he still asks for her every time we are there. No advice, just empathy. Good luck!!

@BelugaBean: @Mamaof2: videos and photos are a good idea. I think I'll start taking more of both now so that I have some variety. I remember when my own best friend moved when I was 4, and I was pretty upset about it.

I moved when I was 3/4. I don't remember much about it (obviously) but I do know we had a going away party at my daycare and that my very best friend and I stayed in touch to an extent. We sent letters/videos back and forth for a couple of years. We both did make new best friends pretty quickly though. I remember the videos helping.

My DS is older (5) but they write each other and send little gifts - its fun plus its a way to have him practice his writing

I also took a bunch of pictures from their last play date and made a little album for each of them!

DS is three and I just found out today that his favorite kids from school, boy/girl twins, are moving away in a few months. It breaks my heart to think how crushed he will be when they leave. He sees them every day at school, we often go to the park with them after school, they live on our street and we often have weekend playdates. I don't plan on bringing it up until just a few weeks before they move. What, if anything, can I do to lessen the blow when they leave?
