She went through a short phase of hating it but now she doesn't mind. She knows the songs "where is thumbkin" and "this little piggy" and I would sing/recite those to her when I cut her nails and now she shows me thumbkin and waits for him to get clipped. And so on and then the the hand. Same with her toes. During our rough time we pretended to clip her stuffed Bunny's fingers and toes and then it was her turn. It also helped letting her hold onto something small that she liked in one hand that she doesn't usually doesn't get to touch (I think it was the snot sucker for us). It was rough for a few weeks and then she got over it and it's no big deal cutting her nails now. I cut them about once a week too for fingernails and probably once every two for toes...or whenever I notice but that seems right

I cut his nails 1-2 times a week. We used to use video clips as a distraction and it was still hard but in the last few weeks he's gotten better and understands more. He points his fingers and says sharp when he sees the nail clippers now. He will be two next month.

Um. When I notice they are too long. LOL DH is too afraid of hurting her so I always do them. I usually distract by singing or the phone.

I do it once a week. It's a fight every time. But the best shot I have at completing the task is to put something on the tube that she likes to watch (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Doc McStuffins are short shows LO likes).

My son is 16 months and a few months ago it got to the point I couldn't do it anymore while he was in his changer, so now I do it while he is eating in his highchair. He's distracted enough eating food with one hand while I do the other hand. Only problem is it is a little messier since he may have food on the nails I'm cutting, but it still works really well and he lets me do it which is all I care about!

I do it after every other bath - we do morning baths every other day. I put on the tv in our bedroom and lotion, dress him and nail cut on the bed (kinda gross but I'm pretty good at containing the clippings) while he watches cartoons.

This is my most dreaded task, she hates getting her nails clipped. Right now I do it after bath and promise her a bedtime snack if she sits on daddy's lap...it usually works.

I was going to start this thread.

I can't get R to sit still to cut them anymore. I used to do while she drank her bottle but now she won't let me. She fights me HARD anytime I try to do it. I end up doing one, maybe two nails, and I can't do anymore cause I am afraid I will cut her cause she is moving so bad. I have to do it once a week.

I still only cut LO's nails when she's asleep - I cut them about once a week or when I start getting clawed to shreds by her little talons :silly:

I used to do it during bedtime nursing, but since that's been over since he turned 1, I've managed to wrestle/wrangle his toe cutting while he's on the changing table after a bath and I do his nails while he's sitting in my lap and DH tells a very lively/attention grabbing rendition of bedtime stories. I've also thankfully been able to do his nails, wo too much fight alone.

Also, how often do you have to cut them? I swear DS' hair and nails grow at lightning speed like mine! I do his nails 1x a week, his toenails every two!
