We dropped it at 13 months. She was teething and uninterested in it for a few days, so I jumped on the opportunity. It was no big deal. She found one once for nap time a few days later and my husband let her have it, but she was fine not getting it ever since. She did steal a few pacis at daycare from other kids, lol. She would be found in the corner facing the wall with her hand over her mouth!

We are in it right now! LO is almost 2.5yo, though I've been slowly preparing her for a while. She's only used it for sleep, and for the past few weeks, once she's sound asleep, I pull the paci out (if it hasn't fallen out already by itself) and then she doesn't get it back, even if she wakes up during the night, and she can fall back asleep without it. She loves it when she sees it, but she's made the transition somewhat easy as she never asks for it - I feel like for her, out of sight, out of mind. Last night was the first night she didn't get it when going to bed and she had no problems! Hope today's nap and bedtime go as smoothly :goodluck:

Our dentist also told us not to worry about it tol 3. However, at his 2.5 yr check up his teeth has actually moved/we're starting to protrude so I dropped it cold turkey that night. I clipped the top and told him it broke. His sleep has sadly never been the same :crying:

Our pediatrician and dentist said don't worry until 3 yrs. Both my babies have been binky babies, but my first was crazy about the thing. Around 2.5 yrs old we convinced her to give it up, after an unsuccessful attempt a few months prior. What worked for us was zipping it up inside a teddy bear with a zipper tummy, and letting her sleep with Binky Bear, and letting her sleep in the tent she got for her second birthday for a while. The novelty of the tent helped distract her.

For our second, we might move her into a room with her sister in the next few months (she's 16 mos now), and we'll try to take it at that point, with hopes she'll be distracted enough by the fun of being in a room with her sister, and won't be too bent out of shape about not having her binky.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: same here! It kills me because I NEVER thought I'd let my kid use a pacifier this long or this much. We've tried limiting it to the crib but her daycare is seriously undermining us. Even though I've asked them not to let her have it unless she's sleeping or really upset about something, the teachers just give in when the kids whine so pretty much every day I arrive to find it stuffed in her mouth. Grrrrr. We need to start being former at home though. It's hard because she seems to be getting more attached as time goes on. Our ped was totally unconcerned at DD's 18-mo checkup but I don't like it...

Around a year we limited it to the crib/car naps during long trips. We made a big deal about how it was only for for sleep. Our pedi was fine with this since it was only for sleep. Around 2 we started telling him how sassies (his word) were for babies and sassy was going to bye-bye soon because he was a big boy now. D randomly took it away from him around 26 months? Just told him it was time for sassy to be a big boy. The first two nights were a little rough...I think it took him like an hour each night to fall asleep. He was fine by the 3rd night, though, and whenever he sees one now he tells me that sassies are for babies :)

Ugh, I wish I knew! We tried to wean at about 6 months but she got sick a month later and would only sleep with a pacifier. I'm planning on trying again once her second tooth comes through!

DS and DD were easily weaned by 4-5 months...they just weren't that attached to it by that age.

We weaned DD1 cold turkey at 15 months. Her dentist suggested we wean her before 18 months to avoid dental issues. She only used it in her crib and at church before that. It wasn't bad - a few rough nights and then back to usual.

DD2 is 7 months and uses hers in bed. I'm not planning to wean her until a similar age because I'd like for her sleep to be totally solid first. She still wakes up at night and nurses once, and I like her having it to soothe herself back to sleep.

Is it used strictly for sleeping? I think limiting it to the crib is a start. We weaned over a 1-2 week period by eliminating all paci's but one and cutting the tip off a bit each night. DD was about 17 months, I think. Big time paci addict but it went well. I probably could've gone cold turkey but I felt it was easier on all of us to just take it slow haha.

If he just started sleeping well, I wouldn't mess with it. We limited the paci to naps and bedtime and then didn't take it away from him until he was 27 months. I wanted to do it before 2, but we moved cross country and I didn't want to take it away before that adjustment. We told him we mailed them to little kids and he just accepted it and moved on. He never really grew attached to a lovey until we took the paci away. Now he's very attached to his A+A blankets.

We're doing it slowly. Right now, she doesn't get it in the car unless we want her to go to sleep. When she's two or a little older, we will start weaning her from using it to sleep. She has Wubbanubs, so I'll take the paci part off and let her keep the animal as a lovey.

This might not be helpful, but we weaned Xander at 11 months. I decided to start with removing it from his naps, but when I talked to daycare about not giving it to him, they said they hadn't been already and he napped just fine without it! So I stopped giving it to him for naps at home as well and since he slept fine without it, I stopped giving it to him at nighttime too and he was fine without it!

We actually "weaned" around 5 or 6 months cold turkey. I think that is easiest when they are young. If they have another lovey to use, I think it helps. A few nights of bad sleep but then it was over.

However, I put that in quotes because after she got sick a little while later, the paci crept back in! LO still uses it for sleep now at 20 months. Our pediatrician is ok with it though.

LO is 8 months and we rely on his paci to help him fall asleep. We put 2 wubbanubs and an Angel Dear lovey in his crib and he uses them all at some point during the night. The pediatrician recommended we start weaning, but I'm scared! He just stared sleeping through the night about 6 weeks ago so I don't want to rock the boat!

When and how did you wean?
