Sigh... I seem to remember DS chowing down on a homemade beef meatball at 6 months old - now at 17 mo he will not eat meat. I stuff him full of houmous, beans and peanut butter to get protein into him!

@Peasinapod: I took a couple of big chicken breasts, a little water or chicken broth, and put them in the slow cooker on low for 5 hours or until they were really soft. Super easy. I would add seasonings for mine and dh but left her plain.

LO's first solid was avocado. I think the next protein we tried was turkey at thanksgiving, she was not a fan. Next was egg or black beans I think.

Hummus was, and still is, an early favorite protein (heads up, I know a few babies who had skin reactions to sabra brand but not others- by a big deal but it scared me at first!). She also used to like pulled or shredded chicken made in the slow cooker. the pieces were nice and small and soft that way. We also tried ground meat (turkey or beef) and then meatballs.

Never did many purees anyway, and pureed meat grosses me out.

I was always so grossed out by pureed meat that I just couldn't do it! As purees we gave my daughter hummus and pureed white beans and black beans mixed with veggies. You can start that whenever.

We pretty quickly moved out of the smooth puree stage. I would give her tiny bites of chicken, and a big hit was little bites of really soft pot roast.

Oh and cottage cheese is a good one too!

I have no idea. Probably chicken or beef. I puréed whatever we ate a bit and gave it to him. I did that with both boys. This was probably at 6 months.

We started LO on purees about 3 or 4 weeks ago when he turned 6 months. So far it's been sweet potato, banana, avocado, etc. When do you work in proteins and what kind? We tried scrambled eggs, and I don't think he liked the texture. Not sure if I should wait a little longer, and try small chunks of chicken?
