@ValentineMommy: Yes that sounds like a good plan!

Another thing that really really helped me was, I was at a friend's house before all these, complaining about how I have no time for working out and I need to do something about it. She literally drew out a calendar of 7 days. Then she literally block out time, say, for you it will be 4:30-5pm, and maybe 5-5:15 as showering. so you visually block it out 30-45 minutes each day. There you will literally see it and it is not as impossible really, you will see! Good luck!!!

@ValentineMommy: for barre videos I really like barrebody.com.au

I've done her videos off and on for about 2.5 years now! I really enjoy her teaching style.

@Mrs. Lion: I have a ton of Jillian Michaels DVDs, but I've been having a lot of problems with my one knee and I'm afraid the videos will aggravate them. I'm thinking of just starting out with some barre videos, seeing how my knee feels, and then maybe alternating with Jillian Michaels and going from there.

@irene: I get home from work at 4pm. DS2 (almost 6m) goes to bed at 7:30, DS1 (almost 3) at 8:30. I'm thinking the best time would be right after I get home. I should add, DH gets home at the same time as me, so having him watch the boys for a half hour is possible.

@ValentineMommy: yes! I've gained muscle (and inches in my arms and thighs) but I've lost inches in my waist. I feel generally stronger. I'm not in a phase of life where I can be making huge gains but my body has definitely changed and become healthier. I started with Bikini body mommy videos (they're free!). I would skip cardio days and do yoga about 60% of the time and still saw results. Now I like to get workouts from coconutsandkettlebells.com Her instagram is good too.

@ValentineMommy: Oh I see..... what time do you get off work and what time do you go to bed? Have to squeeze in 30 minutes before you go to bed then... How old are your kids?

I really like 21 day fix, I like their work outs a lot. They have a different work out every day for the week. Thursday and Sunday are restorative pilates and yoga, and the rest of the days are more intense work outs. The two things I dislike are (1) the amount of commercials on the dvd, which you can get around it quickly when you get used to it and (2) their mealplan and their tiny tiny tiny tiny containers and you are supposed to eat like little bunnies. If I follow the mealplan I would eat less than my 4 year old! So I cut wherever I can, I no longer drink soda or sweet drinks, I drink water with lemon in it, and I don't drink tea.coffee with milk (only drink green tea now). Starbucks would be a once in a blue moon treat. Lunch I try to eat salad and try to cut carbs. But other than that, I love their work outs. And I love Autumn the instructor. Looking at her abs is motivational lol

@ValentineMommy: I lost 30 lbs pretty quickly with a clean diet and just videos at home. The strength training was really what I needed I think. If you do a video, make sure it is high intensity intervals...you will get more workout for the time, and it will build strength and incorporate cardio. I just started Ripped in 30, but 30 day shred is free on youtube last time I checked :)

@mamabolt: Super jealous!!! I wish we had a gym at work!

@Mrs. Sunshine: Has doing videos at home had an impact on your health/weight? I still have some pp weight to lose and I'm hoping that just working out at home is enough (in addition to watching my diet) to get me over the plateau.

@irene: I keep hearing about the 21 day fix. Did you like it? For me, getting up earlier is really not an option. I'm at work, sitting at my desk, at 6am. I get up at 4:55am. I'm definitely not getting up any earlier, lol! I should have posted that in my original post!! :)

I have been trying to figure this out too. This morning my 10 month old was up at 5, so we just went to the living room and I did a Jillian Michaels video. I have always shied away from doing videos in the am because I was afraid it would wake up my toddler, but he didn't hear me at all I guess because he actually slept past his normal wake up time. So as painful as it is, I think 5 am is going to have to be it for me.

Fortunately though I feel AMAZING today! I really do love starting my day with exercise, even if it means getting up insanely early.

@Mamaof2: I think that's exactly what I'm going to have to do! I'm looking at DVD's on amazon right now lol :)

@chopsuey: That's the long term plan/dream!!

@lawbee11: I've been looking at Barre classes as well, but not sure I can make a weekly commitment outside of the house just yet. I'm thinking Barre DVD's might be a good compromise! After I had DS1, I always worked out in our bedroom, but DS2 has crazy good hearing and I'm afraid he would hear me! Although, Barre is probably much more quiet than the Jillian Michaels DVDs I was doing lol

@petunia354: I definitely hear that. I have a hard time imagining I'll have any energy after 8:30pm to work out. I get home around 4, so that might work for me too!

Thanks for the ideas ladies!

I have wrote a similar post maybe half a year ago. I didn't have time or place to work out.

Someone on the boards suggested 21 day fix, I was interested but didn't really go get it then. Months later, a friend of mine posted her beach pictures and her body look like she was in her 20s (we are 40!), basically no muffin top, very little belly, just in shape in general. We asked her what she did, she said 21 day fix! That was when I really want to find out more about it.

Honestly, I also didn't think I could put 30 minutes of work out every single day. Before I got the 21 day fix, I started running up and down the stairs at home (haha) for 10 minutes a day on weekdays. Then I increased it to 15-20+. I usually do it right after DH take DS to school, which would be 7:45am. After I finish and shower, it was 8:30am. Then I get to work. But it was a bit late already.

Later on after I got the 21 day fix, I just figure I got to get up early and do all this before everyone gets up. So I started getting up at 6am and work out for 30 minutes in the attic, and then shower, get everyone up at 6:45am and ready to get out of the door. And trust me. 6 months ago I would think you are joking if I had to get up at 6am to work out for 30 minutes every day. But once you are at it, you don't want to stop! And if one day I didn't get to work out I get really upset at myself and I would try to make that time up somewhere in the evening.

The cool thing nowadays is, my son is almost 4 and getting independent. So as I was working out he would get upstairs and see me work out. Then when I finish and before I hit the shower, I laid out clothes for him and tell him to go to the potty, brush his teeth, get changed while I shower. Sweetness and it works out great!

For me I did it in the attic as we have a TV there and the only place I have a dvd player. But basically you can rip the videos from the dvd and load it on your ipad, theoretically (I haven't done that yet), then you can work out anywhere in your house.

What my friend said was very true, you will never have time to work out, but you gotta make time for it. The thing is, you really feel good about yourself. I didn't really stick to the 21 day meal plan but even that I see results - and that is a huge incentive :)

Good luck!

My employer has a full gym with locker room facilities, so I work out there when I'm in office, usually during lunch. When I'm WFH I work out either mid afternoon or the end of the day, we have a treadmill and I have some workout videos too.

I work out in our living room. I'll either set up DS with a project or a show and I work out in there with him. I figure it's good for him to see me active! I get home at 3:30 so I usually work out between then and dinner. It's so hard to find the motivation to do it after we put him down from the night!

At home. We have a treadmill but lately I've been doing workout videos after LO is asleep. They're short (around 30 minutes) so I just do them as soon as she's in bed to get them out of the way...if I sit down to watch a show first I'll never get up. I do them in our bedroom. I also signed up to start taking barre classes on Saturday mornings. It's only once a week so not too much of a commitment.

ETA: I WOH full-time also. It's so hard to fit it in!

I seriously can not find the time or place to workout and really would like to!

We're working on finishing our basement (ourselves, so it's going to take a looooong time), and when it's done, I'll have the space for my treadmill and pilates reformer. Until then (and again, it's probably going to be 6m to a year before that's done), I have no idea where and when to work out in my house. I don't have the time/money/caregiver to go to a gym, and I'd most likely work out either when the boys are napping or when they've gone to sleep.

So, where and when do you work out? I'm a working mama, so there just doesn't seem to be any time left in my day!
