We just heard of someone named of that name that we liked, looked up the meaning and it was beautiful. The middle name, we combined our Mom's names and looked up the meaning and thought it was perfect. But my now everyone thinks we copied Twilight since the main character combined her mom's names. But we didn't even know about it until she was nearly a year old. So much for originality. Oh and the names cultural tie-in meanings, as well.

We went through a few baby name books and each made our own lists. We then vetoed each other's lists and came up with our top picks. We were lucky that we had a few names common to both lists.

All of my cousins on my mom's side have Biblical names or names that are at least based on a Biblical name. I have a hyphenated first name, and the first part of my name is a combination of my mom's and two grandmother's names.

Since we don't know the gender yet, we're in the process of creating short lists of both girl and boy names. For boy names, DH only seems to like names that are linked with comic book characters (think Clark, Bruce, etc.). For girl names, he's only approving musical words that can double as names. My number one girl's name I actually picked out when I was in high school because I thought it was a pretty word that would make a nice name. Now that we're actually expecting, it's become a popular name, so our current #1 girl name is a variant of that word.

With our first baby, we looked through the baby name book and both agreed on the name. With our second, she was named after our first baby's NICU primary care nurse. She was his nurse for almost 9 months and became very special to him and us. We liked her name because it is easy to pronounce in both English and Japanese and it's a pretty name.

I'm not sure where we found any of our possible names now that I think about it. Mostly we would just think of something and then text it to each other or talk about it and yay or nay it.

A friend of mine picked her daughter's name by watching the credits of movies. They couldn't decide on one so they watched the credits for everything they watched (movies and tv shows) until they found one they agreed on.

We've got it narrowed down to two names for a girl. I found one browsing around the internet on nameberry, and my husband picked the other one. I think he also got it from internet browsing. We like both, but I'm leaning towards mine just because the husband's pick is kind of popular and also starts with the same letter as our daughter's name does. I'm kind of afraid I'll feel a little too Michelle Duggar if they have the same first initial, ya know? I don't know, we're going to talk about next week. I'm only 27 weeks, but I like to have it all picked out early. I want to be able to tell my husband, "I picked up an outfit for BABY NAME" instead of just "I picked up an outfit for the new baby." I'm weird like that. :)

Sadhbh (rhymes with Five) was the mother of Fionn MacCumhaill's child Oisin in Irish legend, and the first time I read it I loved it- it's a little more popular these days but the spelling and pronunciation issues put a lot of people off so it's still not particularly common. Eibhleann is Irish for Evelyn ,sounds the same, and I love the sound of that. Tiernan ( pronounced Teer-nen) I found in a book of Irish baby names, that's our boy name in the event that twin 1 turns out to be a boy.
It does depend on whether you want something from a culture you're attached to, but fairy tales etc are usually a good source. Some welsh names are really beautiful, and not crazy if you adapt the spelling to suit.

okay, we were no where CLOSE to a name for our girl. most names i suggested, my hubby crossed it off. well, we got her korean name, which means "wisdom"... so i looked up baby name meanings and turns out sonia and sophia mean wisdom. we were leaning towards either of those names. i'm leaning towards sonia only because sophia is so popular.... but alas, my husband doesn't want sonia - he wants sophia. and i've like sophia since i was young.... SO.... that's how we picked the girls name. but we're not set in stone with that name. i think rachel and vivian are in the running.

We're having a lot of trouble finding girls' names that we both love. We have a few picked out that we both like, but we just can't seem to find any that we really love. I've been looking EVERYwhere-- the ad-plastered baby name websites, books, even looking thru random things like phone books for female first names for inspiration.

It's tough because Wagon Sr. is pretty set on choosing a name that doesn't already belong to someone we know, and we don't want the name to be too tough for our ESL parents to pronounce. And I want it to have a cute nickname that we could use when she's little.

If you didn't name your LO after a family member, how did you come up with the name? Did you find it somewhere specific? I need ideas for where to look for inspiration!!!
