I plan to do a floor bed setup as well, so we'll just get a mattress from whatever local store I can find that sells organic mattresses.

LO's bed will be an antique (not ready to move yet). It's set up in our guest room now. The mattress is a bit smaller than the frame, but there's not enough difference that it will matter.

A brand called Rafa Kids. The twin bed is sold with a mattress, but the mattress is slightly narrower than a standard twin, but twin sheets fit just fine.

@BoogieBea: we have them lofted right now so DD is in the upper bunk. We plan to keep her there and put DS in the lower bunk rather than using a toddler bed; which could be sooner than we'd like since he's been trying to climb out of the crib at 17m.

We got ours from IKEA... it's actually a daybed. I liked that there were 3 sides to it (and I put up a rail on the 4th side), and that there were 3 pull-out drawers underneath for storage.

DH had a "This End Up" twin bedframe from his bachelor days so that is what we used for DD (at 2 yo). We got the mattress from a local mattress manufacturer because we really like their quality plus we only needed the mattress since we had the bunky board. We bought a bunk bed/loft setup from Criagslist this past fall for when DS is ready for a big boy bed (DD and DS share a room) and will buy the mattress from the same place we got DD's.

@T.H.O.U.: so it's basically a floor bed setup. That might work too.

we got a sealy twin mattress from Costco. It was nice because they sold just the mattress without the box frame.

My daughter has been in her toddler bed (a converted crib handed down from her brother) for over 6 months now. I had planned on getting her a twin bed much later. She's only 2.5. Last week we were all sick and there were a number of nights where she woke up in the middle of the night. I tried letting her sleep in our bed but our bedroom is too dry for her even with the humidifier on. So I ended up curling up with her in HER bed (basically a crib). It was definitely not the best sleep. That's all past and she's sleeping through the night again but it's just making me think about getting her a twin sooner than later. I found a really nice antique bed on craigslist but because it is antique, it's not a standard size so I'm not sure I want to deal with possibly having to modify it.

If your LO is already in a larger bed, where did you get it?
