Honestly, I would skip a stroller for now, until you better know your needs after baby gets here. I know that's hard to do, what with wanting to be prepared. But you're commited to babywearing, and assuming that works out, you may not need a stroller for quite some time.

My kiddo is 5 months and we've used our stroller maybe 5 times. We drive most places, take baby with is everywhere, and babywear every day. I've never brought a stroller to the grocery store or restaurant. The few times we've used ours has been for long walks. I've gotten used to eating while babywearing, and have no problem babywearing at restaurants.

We used a convertible from the start, an umbrella stroller (G-Lite) and a baby carrier. It worked fine for us to get only an umbrella stroller that couldn't be used until 4-6 months because until then, it was easier to use the baby carrier. (We have the Beco Butterfly 2.)

We used our Uppababy Cruz as our only stroller until 1 year when we got a Mountain Buggy Nano for travel. While we did have the UB Mesa infant bucket that clipped into the Cruz, we stopped doing that fairly quickly because our son hated the carseat but was happy as a clam in the regular seat. We didn't buy the UB newborn insert - instead we used the Summer Infant Snuzzler which cost like $10 bucks and did the same thing. I'm certain we had him in there before 1 month and he was just under 7lbs at birth, so not a big baby at all.

Mostly we just took walks every day in the 0-3 month range - sometimes twice a day - because my son was colicky. He would either fall asleep for a few minutes or the screaming was less pronounced outdoors than it was ringing off our walls. The neighbors got real familiar seeing my husband and I walking around like zombies with a screaming baby and we were grateful we had a stroller we loved day in, day out. Otherwise, we would walk to the grocery store (the storage basket is huge on the Cruz) or drive to doctor's appointments or Target/Costco.

The Cruz is not really a small/compact stroller, but it folds and stands up and the suspension is really smooth for suburban life. It is pretty big in terms of hefting it in and out of the car, but its definitely not as bad as the Vista and we keep it in the house most of the time. We really liked the ability to switch DS from facing us or facing forward and we still use it almost every day at 17 months.

While we had carriers that we used, my son just personally hated being worn and my husband felt more comfortable with a stroller than the Ergo, so we tended to use our stroller the most.

We went everywhere with our LO's. When she was itty bitty, I would either wear her or bring the infant car seat with us (I know this is not what you want).

I really liked having the option to get baby in and out of the car if she was sleeping, without having to wake her.

We had a January baby, so didnt go anywhere until April. I wore her primarily because she loved being cuddled non-stop and also hated the recline of her bucket seat (she screamed in the car until she got her big girl convertible).

As far as strollers, we have a B Agile and love it, we also have a MacClaren Mark II and love how lightweight it is. The B Agile is great for neighborhood walks, long days away from home (perfect for a nap), whereas the Mark II is perfect for shopping, short trips, and airport travel. We were a one stroller family until the B Agile + Toddler was too heavy, and we got a super amazing black friday deal on the Mark II. LO was almost 2 before we ended up with a second stroller.

I voted for the Armadillo XT - is it the one where the baby can face you? As some other posters mentioned, this seems like a better choice (even though i love my Gluxe). The canopy also seems MUCH bigger.

One thing to think about is whether you run hot. I babywore quite a bit in the summer, and my chest/belly was always drenched in sweat after 20 minute or so of walking around. I always worried about the baby getting overheated as well.

Tough call but I voted for the G lux. We live in the suburbs and drive everywhere except for the occasional walk to the park or around the block. I think in the long run, you will like having a lightweight umbrella stroller. We use ours more than anything else (when we just had one LO). Does the G lux recline back?

You could get a head support to use when the baby is younger. We have this one:

http://tinyurl.com/zvy5frk

We have a mountain buggy as our double stroller. I looked back and we got it when my DD was 2.5 months and it looks like same style of seat as glux. the boppy head support helped when she was little and we just reclined it back all the way. It wasn't ideal, but got us through the early days ok.

We walked everywhere, all day everyday pretty much! When very little she loathed the stroller so we wore her. We had a bugaboo with bassinet. I am super tall and it has super tough wheels. I had an older mom ask me how many times I had to replace the wheels when we walked a couple miles to the Uni one day and I remember telling her we haven't had to. DH even ran it over with the truck (empty) and once it went off a cliff when I had to grad LO... a jogger had to rescue it for me. Long story short, it has been really an important thing for us! She started refusing it at 2. Prior to that it was important, and I felt so relaxed when I could actually get her strapped in, being that we live on busy streets. It was like my car. But we did have to wear her 0-3 months, especially if we tried going out to eat. She wasn't one of these mystical sleepy babies I read about. She was one hyper kid. Anyway, I am glad I got the stroller I did, and I am just rambling but it was a mega asset.

I know it isn't a hip concept on HB but my OB has and had literature plastered everywhere that a baby should not be in a car seat except for while in the car, for very short periods of time. Eating out wasn't a thing that happened a lot to be honest.

We went everywhere with baby. I'm another one where it's my nightmare to be trapped in the house for weeks on end. I baby wore, but I also used the stroller a ton. We would go shopping (mall/Target/groceries/etc), out to eat, to the pediatrician, and for walk around the neighborhood, all using the stroller.

For shopping I needed the stroller because 1)I didn't want to wake the baby, and 2)I needed it to be my pack mule for the diaper bag and tons of other stuff that it seemed like we needed at the time. It's really hard to shop, wear baby, carry the diaper bag, and carry any bags of stuff you buy.

As others pointed out, it's tough to babywear and go out to eat. Way more convenient to have him in the stroller. I loved it on maternity leave - he'd fall asleep in the car, we'd move the seat to the stroller and go into the restaurant, and he'd sleep the entire time. It was great to feel normal and do something enjoyable.

For the pediatrician waking him up wouldn't have been the problem, but I wouldn't have wanted to have to get him out of the convertible seat, wrap him/get him in the carrier, get up to the exam room 5 minutes later and have to take him out. And once I did the pediatrician alone when he was tiny and I had to have a safe place to put him down. I don't know about other offices but ours just has adult chairs and an exam table, and you can't exactly leave the babies on those for even a second.

Another consideration, my DS hated being in our stroller that faced away from us until he was almost a year old. I tried to use our b-agile without the carseat and have him in the regular seat and he freaked out because he felt like he was alone. I didn't like it either because I couldn't see him. Every baby's different, but with that experience I would only use a stroller that has an option for an infant to face the parents. It's worth the extra money in my experience.

Agree with previous posters that my biggest concern without an infant seat would be a place to set baby while eating out. We have a G-luxe and I wouldn't have felt comfortable using it until about 5-6 months, I think. We didn't get ours until 8 months and used the bucket seat in our City Mini from birth.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: my lifestyle is totally different than yours- live in the city, walk way more than I drive, so I can't totally comment on where I would take baby in your situation. And my first daughter hated the stroller for the first few months (ironically until I started using the infant car seat in it instead of the bassinet that I thought was better) so I mostly wore her in a wrap all the time. It was summer and hot and humid so we both got really sweaty but she was happy.

The downside is that when we got somewhere, like a restaurant for lunch or something, I had no place to put her down and had to sort of sit back from the table and eat over her head instead of pulling a stroller up to the table.

I think you are smart to wait until baby is born and see what you want. Maybe you will both love baby wearing and it will never be an issue and you can't start using the gluxe down the line. Maybe one of you won't like baby wearing and you will want a stroller right away, so you can buy the armadillo.

Oh and my last two cents- I really really liked having my LO face me for a long time. Again, we walked a ton so it's different but I love looking at her while we walked, talking to her, seeing when she fell asleep. And I needed those walks to give us both fresh air in addition to getting places.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: the Armadillo XT is pretty badass!

My son wouldn't tolerate babywearing until he was bigger (4+months).
We have a BOB and it's lasted from 6months until now, 4 years. I feel like we definitely got our money's worth with that one. I'm still not ready to retire it but probably will this summer.

I went absolutely everywhere with LO after the first couple of weeks: restaurants, grocery store, museums, the mall, movie theatres (mommy and baby noon-hour showing), doctor's office, mom's group, and two round-trip flights accompanying DH for work.

Honestly, there really aren't many places you can't bring a baby that small. They are so portable and sleep so well (normally). I get the concern about exposing them to germs while they are unvaccinated, which is why we waited until he had his first shots before flying anywhere. But around town, we just avoided sick people.

To answer your second part, I'd get the Armadillo. You may not want to baby-carry everywhere, although I do know some moms that do. The Armadillo doesn't look that big, and seems to fold nicely - it kind of looks like the Nano when folded. Because you've said that it rains frequently, can you get a rain cover? Even if you don't plan on heading out while it's raining, it's nice to have something stowed in the basket ready to whip out.

We baby wore for 10 weeks. FWIW I did not even research when she could ride in our stroller. She just looked big enough at 10 weeks. We have the city mini GT. T rarely naps in the stroller, but almost always in her ergo if she's tired. We did not have an infant attachment.

@hilsy85: yeah I can't imagine a 3 month in a G-Luxe either.

I also can't imagine not having an infant seat. Taking her out of the convertible seat to put in a carrier to walk around Target would have woken her up. And then who knows if she would go back to sleep. I tried to walk the trail at the park every day, it would have been way too hot to wear her and do that.

We have an uppababy cruz, my daughter couldn't fit in it without the infant insert until 4/5 months. And I love the fact that she faces me. She still likes to face me. By 6 months they can use the umbrella strollers if they have strong neck/torso support.

Remember most carriers aren't rated until 8lbs+ even with infant inserts for risks of suffocation. So you may have a few weeks where you can't wear them in the early days. So you might want a bassinet options especially if you don't have a bucket seat.

@ModernDayJibarita: I couldn't convince my husband on the Flip XT because of the price, but I love the reversible seat on that model. Are you happy with your Armadillo?

@hilsy85: The Armadillo XT competes with B-Agile, City Mini and Joovy Scooter. It weighs 20lbs- there's another model that weight even less, but the XT has a mesh window that is a must in our weather.

Eaxactly same situation (only convertible car seat/plan on babywearing/ use car for eveything etc.)

We chose to go with the Armadillo Flip XT, rather than the MB nano that was my other pick) mostly for those ocasions where we are our of the house for a extended period of time. For example, in Sept (baby will be 4months) we will be taking baby to a local amusement park for a work event and wouldn't like to babywear for 6-8 hrs. We hope to have him nap in the stroller. Stroller will live in the car for the ocassions we need it ( thoguh

@lamariniere: my go to for stroller reviews loves the Maclaren http://www.momsstrollerreviews.com/maclaren-techno-xt-stroller-review/ Did you also use an after market stroller caddy?

@avivoca: I didn't even think about a mom's group, but that is worth seeking out during mat leave.

@autumnleaves: hmm I wonder if there's a stroller guru that makes the rounds at my BBB. I'll ask.

I didn't have access to a car, so we relied on public transportation. We also had an unusually warm winter, so I was out walking with my son in his stroller almost every single day. At that age, we used a basinett attachment to the stroller, because my husband was obsessed with airway constriction and also because my dad managed to bust our first stroller and the car seat no longer clicked into the frame.

I have a 3 month old and a g luxe and I don't think I'd be comfortable putting her in there...maybe that's just me though. I would definitely want to be able to see her while in the stroller, and the suspension on the g luxe is not great. That being said, I do think that you can use carriers a lot in the first few months, but it will depend on your baby. My LO sleeps great in a carrier, but if she is awake (which has been more and more since about 2 months), then I need to be moving around, I can't just be sitting down with her in the carrier or she freaks out. SO that would make it hard to just have that as my main option--I think it would make me feel anxious. I don't know anything about the armadillo--is it fairly light weight and compact, or is it a big heavy stroller like the ub vista?
