The closest city was 1.5 hours away. Our town was tiny, had only one paved street which was the highway. Post office/grocery store/liquor mart was in one building, a small cafe and gas station in another then a K-8 school. I grew up in Tulsa, which is a city but I wouldn't call it urban, and it's certainly not rural and not really suburban. We had chickens and an old apple orchard. Nearest 'city' was about 30 mins away, our little town had a blinking yellow light and 2 gas stations. The nearest "big" towns were 4-5 hours away. It was a good place to grow up, though. I really loved it as a kid.</p> <p>DH's parents were in the military so he moved around. I grew up in the suburbs and so did DH, but where we live now sounds really similar to where you were raised! My current town is probably smaller and I think it's an ideal place to raise a child. We had a huge backyard and a ton of woods back there. We would play in the woods and the creek down deep in the woods. A friend of mine and I decided one day we would walk to the closest convenience store that was 4 miles away. We didn't realize it was so far until we got going..... Her brother happened to drive by and we hopped a ride to the store and back to home with him. :)</p> <p>I loved growing up in the country. It could not have been a better place to grow up. Now I live in the suburbs and I'm not as happy. I love the tight-knit feel of the community while I was growing up, but the town has attracted a lot of new folks and now feels so different every time I go back to visit.
