So my twins are now 2 months. They came home at 36 weeks and were fine swaddles in the twin PnP with the bassinets. They started to fuss but I read about using a white noise machine. Wow! What a difference. They lasted about a week in the bassinet, though. They just didn't like sleeping on the flat surface. Also, they wanted the pacifier to stay in their mouth and it was hard to keep the pacifier to stay in the bassinet. Then we started using the Mamaroos and would let them sleep in those for a week or so. Then I remembered I have two RnPs and they were great! The Mamaroos were too large to back and forth from the bedroom to the living room so one of us had to sleep on the couch to watch the babies. The RnPs let us both sleep in our bedroom with each baby on each side of the bed. That worked for a week or so until DS started developing painful gas. (This would be when he was 8 weeks or 2 weeks adjusred... Around the time babies start getting collicy. DS is maybe borderline collicy but so glad we helped things when we switched his formula.) A few sleepless nights. :( Dr suggested switching formula and thankfully that helped. But we noticed that DS was more comfortable laying flat. So he now sleeps in his crib. DD followed 2 weeks later but slept longer in the RnP so she is still in the RnP at night. So that's how things are at 2 months.

My twins slept in RnPs in our room and loved them. We were forced to transition them to crib as soon as they started rolling over. Sleep in their cribs has honestly never been as good. But I still think I would do it that way again. With our singleton we just coslept which I loved but that's impossible with two.

My twins are now 5 so the rock and play wasn't around when they were babies so not sure if I would have used it. My two slept together in our room in a full size arms reach co sleeper. We didn't attach it to the bed for space issues. I used that over a pack and play since the bassinet could hold more weight. They were on our room one month and then we moved the co sleeper into the room next to our from months 2 to 4/5 months. They were together till then. They started to roll over at 4/5 months so we moved them into seperate cribs. We recently had our house on the market and have their room staged as a guest room so now they share a double bed. You can plan but I would say you need to kind follow their lead too. Some twins do well together early on others prefer to be seperate. Twins are fun, congrats.

We had our twins sleep in one crib together in our master bedroom for the first 3 months. I really believe this helped set them up to be awesome sleepers from the start. Of course, that's also dependent on each baby's individual temperament! At around 3 months, we moved that crib back into the nursery and had them start sleeping in separate cribs.

I get it! It's almost impossible to plan for, though. I was sure I wanted one thing, and the reality of having newborn twins meant everything was out the window.
So...I hope this helps...
The short answer is that we did Rock n Plays next to our bed for the first three weeks. Then we kept them in the RnP's but had them sleep in their room until week 9(ish). At that point, we transitioned them to the cribs. As with all "weaning" and challenging situations, we transitioned them one-at-a-time.
I won't lie: the crib transition sucked...in fact, I vividly remember cracking a beer at 11am and laying on the floor in the hall next to their room.
All that said, I really felt like what we did was right FOR US.
The long version...
I really wanted my twins in their cribs from day one. I had their cribs all ready and I even put an air mattress in their room so I could sleep there if needed.
Thing was, there were so many issues with that plan!
#1-oh sweet Lord, I was tired. The 10 extra steps to their room in the middle of the night were too much.
#2- with twins, DH had to get up when I did. He couldn't cope with those extra 10 steps any better than me.
#3- elevation and a snug, tight bed are a thing. My guys couldn't cope when they were laying flat. We learned that on night #1, and that's the day I signed up for Amazon Prime. I wanted their little heads elevated and tucked in ASAP! Two day shipping, baby!
#4- I wish I'd put more stock in the Merlin suit. The crib transition was hard, and eventually we bought some foam wedges that helped. The wedges were good, but the Merlin suit would have made it so much easier.
Ugh!
I guess that's my two cents, but I know that you'll figure out what works for you. For me, it helped to have a plan. But a plan b doesn't hurt!you're gonna do great 💗

My twins hated their cribs and slept in rock n play like sleepers til approx 5 months. Our pediatrician said their sleeping in them was perfectly fine. They slept in their room which is across the hall from ours. At approx 5mo we moved them to their cribs and they did fine in them after that. They never slept in the same crib.

Right now, before the twins come, we are thinking we will use the bassinets that come with the twin playpen will be used for a month (or 2) and then transition to their own cribs in their nursery. I am a light sleeper so I am afraid I'll be up watching them a lot. Also, I am hoping to get them crib trained earlier than later. We'll see what works. Oh, we are having a twin bed in their nursery so DH and I could sleep in their room if we wanted to. I am planning on BFing but I'm liking the idea of exclusively pumping since I'll be going back to work and DH will be a SAHD.

I don't have twins but both my boys slept in my room in the beginning and transitioned around 6-8 weeks when they slept a bit longer. But the nursery is literally a few steps away. DS1 slept in a pnp and DS2 slept in the rnp. I think the rnp is fantastic. And we had zero issues transitioning him to the crib.

I don't have twins, but I did have a home setup like yours. I always had DS in a PnP next to me until about 6.5 months. Going up and down the stairs was brutal at night. It always woke me up way too much so it was hard to fall back to sleep, plus I couldn't lay down in the nursery. So my recommendation is keep them in your room until they sleep through the night. So much easier to nurse side lying and fall back to sleep.

They slept in our room in two separate bassinets in the double pack n play. Actually, Alice started sleeping in the swing pretty early on. At 9 weeks we moved them to cribs in their nursery. I know some people swear by crib sharing, but I didn't feel comfortable with it after hearing about an increased risk of SIDS with crib sharing. Plus, I wanted them to sleep in their own places long term. Plus, they found absolutely zero comfort from being near each other. In fact, DD used to scream every time we put them together for pictures or anything until maybe 6 weeks? I think she knew DS was her competition for food. 😉

I'll tell you what we did and what I would do differently if I could go back in time. We live in a small apartment and started out with only one crib but a pack n play in our bedroom. They instantly hated the PnP and preferred the Rock N Plays for sleeping, so they slept in those until about 3.5 months old, when we transitioned to the crib. They slept in our room for two nights before I moved them to the nursery. Twins are noisy! Their room is directly next to ours (7 steps total, ha) and with both doors open, we could hear almost everything so I was comfortable with it. In hindsight, I would try to go crib in the nursery from Day 1. It will make things easier overall, even if it's a little more work in the beginning. And transitioning from the RnP to crib was awful!!!

@Kelli_Deluxe: LO has not arrived yet but I have heard that some pediatricians are not thrilled about babies sleeping in rock and plays - they are not designed for sleeping (naps are ok while YOU are awake) but not for overnight sleep. So I think your best bet is putting the crib in your room or using bassinets or a pack n play! Good luck!

I'm probably a bit ahead of myself but I'm a planner and a doer, and the best approach to being pregnant with twins is for me to have answers!

In Googling I'm seeing a mix of 3 sleep solutions; sharing a crib from day 1, in their own cribs from day 1, or sleeping in something like Rock n Plays and worrying about transitioning later.

We have a very large master that takes up our top floor (loft style), then their bedroom would be down about 8 stairs on the main floor. We could fit a crib in our room for the beginning, or obviously RNPs. I'm not thrilled about having them in their own room so soon at night, but will consider it if the consensus is that 2 cribs from the start is best.

Any opinions are welcome!
