Target, grocery store, mall, friends' houses. Was frigid cold in MI but well worth stir craziness!

@Bookworm: Anytime. I'm pretty much always free ;-) Honestly, the first time I left the house on my own I was terrified and then when I got home afterwards I felt silly because there was really nothing to it.

@rawrasaur: I'm too afraid to take her anywhere on my own yet, so I'm hoping I get braver in a few weeks and can use some of these suggestions. There just is nothing to do here :/ and yeah, like you said, a lot of the moms groups here seem to be during work hours. I'll just have to get your homebody self to go get coffee with me when I'm brave enough to leave the house!

I am a homebody, so I didn't have an urge to go out in those early months. I also know that if I am out doing something, I am spending money - which I try to avoid. I am starting to feel the need to do more now that LO is getting older and needs more stimulation, though, and this town has so little to offer.

There is a stroller strides and plums mom club here you can check out, but I know you are going back to work.

At that age my daughter was my little sidekick - she went along with me as I went about my life, basically. We ate in a lot of fun restaurants, explored our new city, went to museums and even a few movies. A baby that age is so portable - just take them anywhere!

@MamaBehr: I've been thinking about venturing to Houston to an outlet mall or museum. I've been to HMNS many times, but never paid attention to how baby friendly it was!

@Mrs. Chen: Target is totally an outing! We've taken her twice now and it's an interesting experience with a baby lol!

@Pink Champagne: That's true, and she's already made three doctors visits already...she's a lot more likely to have picked something up there than at the mall. We were thinking about driving to the Waco zoo; it's very shady and not too crowded if you go early.

We did lots of walks around the lake, went to parks or to the zoo. It's not cold/flu season so you can probably relax a little about taking LO to places like malls. You could always cover her carseat with a blanket if you're worried.

It was winter when DD was that age so we really didn't do much. DH was gone for two weeks for work when she was 8 weeks old so I was really home alone! Talk about going stir crazy. The few outings we had were to the mall, Target (yes, at that age I considered this an outing), going to a friend's house or inviting friends over really helped.

My LO is 9 weeks. We go to the mall for walks a lot (too hot here most of the time, too). We have also gone to some local gardens, traveled into the city and taken some mini road trips to see friends.

Not sure how your LO does in the car, but I have been timing any drives 30 mins+ around her naps. Last week we took our longest trip--and she slept without a problem the whole way there and back (it's a 1.5 hr drive). I would say I was confident enough to go that far after about 8 weeks. Some of my mom friends think I am crazy for going that far, but it has all gone fine! I figure it's probably easier to travel now that she is taking 2-3 naps a day than it will be when she sleeps less and is mobile! Plus, I get stir crazy staying in all the time.

We got outside early in the day and sat under an umbrella or tree on a blanket and people-watched in parks. We took a lot of walks too. If you have friends or relatives nearby who are up for visits, that's another spot with A/C (and usually also a meal, at least in my family!). :) The library also works. Children's sections are typically pretty quiet during the middle of the day...as long as school is in session.

We didn't do an hour-plus car trip until 5 months.

I go stir crazy FAST, so after about six weeks I started taking DS out of the house. I found that if I wore him (or DD when she was that young) he was safe and protected, but we were out of the house!

If you are willing to drive, you could do the Houston Museum of Natural Science? It is inside and is interesting for you, but totally baby and stroller friendly. The aquarium is terrible in Houston (well, in my opinion), but you could try any of the museums and just baby wear if you are afraid of strollers.

This summer we have done a lot of mall walks, Children's museums (but that doesn't work for your LO), Natural Science Museum, and playdates. It is tough to beat the heat down here!

At that age my LO loved the aquarium more than any other outing. Something about the water and the fish just fascinated her. Ours has a restaurant, so we could really make an outing of it.

Some of the options may not work for you, but here is what we did:
-Any park/pond/ place with a patch of shade where I could put the baby on a blanket. M really liked being outside- I could actually read a book while she looked around!
-Mall: I hate the mall, but it is air conditioned and M liked being wheeled around. What can I say- it got me out of the house!
-Starbucks or other coffee shop- again, air conditioned. Quiet but not too quiet. You can eat and drink but also leave quickly if you need to. Usually plenty of semi private seating. Just instead of bringing your laptop, you're bringing a baby.
That's about it, I guess. Good luck!

I'm starting to get a little stir crazy at home all day, and even though LO is marathon eating these days, I'm starting to hope that in a couple weeks, the growth spurt may have calmed down enough for us to take her somewhere other than Target or the grocery store!

I'm in Texas, and it's crazy hot, so anywhere we go would really have to happen as early in the day as possible, or be indoors. She also won't have had her 2 month shots yet, so I'm not sure if I feel comfortable taking her to really crowded places. I plan on taking her to the mall to escape to the A/C, but really, there is NOTHING to do in my town. I'm within 1.5-2hrs of 3 major Texas cities, so I'd be willing to drive a bit to go do something fun... even though the thought of a car trip is a bit terrifying ;)

Where did you take your newborn in those first couple of months? Did you stay close to home or venture out to family or other entertainment? How soon was it before you felt comfortable taking LO to places further than an hour away?
