@oliviaoblivia: I once walked into Baker and left with a Mcguire chair, and can't imagine how much a Baker sofa costs!

Sofas were a sore spot for me when we moved! We ended up working with a local store to buy Pearson sofas and Bernhardt chairs. After pricing a custom order, we ended up actually buying samples off the floor which saved a lot of money. For a sitting room that we don't use often a CB2 sectional worked fine, but I don't think it would hold up with kids or daily use. The Pearson sofas are beautiful, solid, and we would sooner reupholster than replace them when the time comes.

We buy all of our furniture from Rooms to go. They have held up really well for us. We have the reclining couch and love seat, and I LOVE them.

Our leather reclining couches are from Bob's Discount Furniture or something like that-- DH bought them before I moved here. They are more than 5 years old now and held up well, though he bought the extended warranty and had to use it when the springs on one seat broke. Most of the rest of our furniture is random or hand me down.
I've had two Ikea couches in the past-- the Ektorp sofabed was pretty comfortable and we had it for a few years before moving away. I also had a tiny one that you assemble yourself that was pretty uncomfortable, but it was the only one that fit in my apartment at the time. I've seen Jennifer convertible ones that were really uncomfortable.

We got a random couch made by Ashley furniture when we first moved into our house because we had to sell our sectional (which we loved!!) but the couch sucks! It's ripped and so uncomfortable.

I buy most of our furniture at Bassett when we can afford it/when they have a sale.

We have two sofas. One Crate & Barrel and one Bob Williams & Mitchell Gold. They've both held up nicely. Because of my work I have access to higher end stuff at better prices. I totally recommend going to Craigslist route if you can find a sturdy sofa frame that you can reupholster in the future. If you find a manufacturer you like it can make a Craigslist search easier. Many American furniture manufacturers produce for known shops. Companies like Hickory Chair, Henredon, Drexel, and Baker will last you through your grandchildren.
In college I had an IKEA sofa that was pretty much demolished after three years and we took pretty good care of it. It was really frustrating to have to buy a new one when I was freshly out of school and totally broke.

I got my leather couch and loveseat from a local (non-chain) store. They are awesome, I have had them for 6 years and they still look and feel like new. I actually got them for a great price because they were displays as well. I shopped around a ton before I bought them.

There are a couple of non-chain stores in our area that we shop at. They are more expensive, but most of the stuff isn't made in china crap that you get fromt he chain stores. I used to work in customer service at a chain furniture store, the quality isn't that great and they don't wear well.

IKEA and Craigslist. No, seriously. We have two couches from IKEA, the first one is 2 years old and we moved it into the reading room because it was too small for our current living room. Both of the couches we have are awesome, and they hold up really well.

Our current sectional is from Jennifer Convertibles and it is falling apart after only 4 years, so avoid them!

I am more picky when it comes to upholstered furniture, especially couches, because of the springs. Our next ones will be from Thomasville.

We've never bought new furniture! Always thrifted or off of CL. When we got married we had like no $$ and I got a couch/loveseat off Freecycle for free. They worked, but when I developed sciatica while pregnant, I realized how low quality they were - I couldn't sit on our couches because it aggravated my back. I have the rocking chair we got that I use now, it's in the LR. Anyhow - we're moving, hate our couches= reason to get new couch.

I've browsed CL but I kind of want a nice, new couch this time around. I also stopped in at Ashley and they had some stuff but not a ton.
