@locavore_mama: Thanks! Yeah we'll likely be sleeping in the living room on the coldest nights. :)

For coats, I'm looking for 2T. I want to get a heavy waterproof parka and a dressier wool peacoat, as well as some long underwear/thermals for layering.

I don't know if I want to buy boots yet because I'm worried I'll get the size wrong. She's in size 5 now so she'll probably be in size 6, but who knows. I'd like to get her some warm snow boots and then some baby hunters (but they have those for $30 on Anazon so I'll probably buy there).

@Arden: check 6pm.com, back country, Sierra trading post regularly in their sale/clearance section. Good winter gear is $$$ but I never pay full price. Our winters are like 5 months long.....
What size are you looking in clothes and boots? I keep an eye out all the time for M for the following so I'll keep an eye out for Vi.

Any chance you can buy a electric heater with a plug converter and ship it there?

That said my cousin in law moved into a Amish home with only a pellet stove. She has a toddler and they all slept in the room the stove was in. :)

I would definitely splurge on warm waterproof winter boots. I bough Sorels for DS last winter. I bet you could find them on sale somewhere now since it's almost summer. Would you be able to order online once you move? Amazon is all over much of Europe and I've had good luck having things sent from other stores in the UK.

Look on eBay! Off season now so you should be able to snag some good deals! I also love the thicker baby deedee sleepsack when we go to the mountains.

LL Bean and Northface (psa, the Northface jacket we had this past winter was sized really small). LL Bean stuff has all been great, especially their heavy-duty toddler/kids snow boots.

I've bought some thicker, ribbed leggings and sweaters at H&M and baby gap. My LO's winter coat is from Zara Kids. It looks very similar to the Juicy Couture one, but thankfully it didn't cost $200 :)

@Arden: We had a really nice patagonia fleece that we loved last winter - and it's on sale: http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/baby-micro-d-crew?p=60146-1
And we also had some booties to match, but I don't see them listed online.

ETA: Bummer, though, they don't have any of the bigger sizes left… boo!

My sister lived all over Russia. They hung rugs on the walls. It was no.joke.cold. She wore a parka with real fur.

I prefer wool long underwear to silk. Merino is pretty incredible these days. I get ours from amazon, polarn o pyret (end of season sales), and nui organics (again, watch for sales and keep an eye on zulilly). You really only need two sets of wool long underwear, we just hang it to air dry, and wash every few weeks.

I typically buy used for winter gear from local consignment shops. Just got a great deal on a down vest from Hanna Andersson on ebay.

We usually do a wool layer, fleece layer, down layer if it's really cold. Balaclavas are great for underneath regular hat/ hood.

This is mostly for outerwear, we go outside everyday even when it's frigid. Inside we just do wool plus regular play clothes. We got a fleece thing that I can wear over both of us for babywearing.

I don't know about good deals (I would guess that now is probably a good time to buy actually!) but polarn o. pyret and rei make good underlayers and winter gear. As does LL Bean, actually--and they are pretty reasonably priced.

We live in Florida right now so I have no clue when it comes to winter shopping for kids.

We are going to be in Kosovo this winter from Dec-Feb, and it will be very cold and snowy. Most homes only have a wood stove for heat in the living rooms and don't have heat in the bedroom, so we'll need some very warm pajamas too.

DH and I have been through these kind of winters with no heating before, so we're used to it, but I'm worried about Vi. I want to get some silk long underwear, some good snow boots, some warm and cozy sleepsacks, and a heavy coat.

I have time to worry about this but I'm just wondering - where do ya'll get good deals on winter gear?
