We keep one stroller in the car but the one I use every day is in the hallway to our garage. I keep it fully open and can't imagine having to deal with taking it out of the car trunk to unfold it. But, I walk and take public transport and my husband takes our car to work.

The biggest thing I can recommend is having a space in your bathroom for a changing table. I don't like the idea of diaper changes away from running water, lol. I also don't like the idea of storing dirty diapers in a bedroom. Also, if you are doing a laundry room and you have two floors, consider doing it on the level with the bedrooms. It will save you carrying the laundry up and down the stairs.

How often are you planning on using your stroller and what for?

For us, I'm going to be SAHM for at least twelve months so I'm planning on taking lots of walks around our neighbourhood with our dog and therefore keeping the stroller in the car would be a pain in the arse for us. I'm hoping to keep our stroller either in our laundry room (when using the carrycot attachment) or folded up in our entrance hallway once Baby gets bigger and we're using the actual stroller seat.

If you're not planning on doing a lot of walking from home, then keeping it in the car makes a lot of sense!

As for all the baby stuff, I'm due in seven weeks and we're still trying to work out where we're going to put everything!

Right now there are three behind my car in the garage and then one in my car. It'll probably be that way until we are tired of lugging our LO around in his car seat in which we won't be needing the car seat frame stroller anymore. He's only 15 lbs but feels so heavy already. I have a feeling he'll grow out the the car seat by length before weight.

We keep our stroller in the car or garage. We live just a couple blocks up from a cove with 3 mile walking trail around it and the stroller is mostly used when I take LO on that walk, so it makes sense to just keep it out in the garage.

I keep my main stroller in the car and the BOB on the screened in porch. We have a pretty small house with minimal closet space...it makes me feel better that other folks keep their strollers in the car, too! At first I worried it would get stolen, but then I realized that theives aren't really interested in strollers!

Right now it's either in the car or in the dining room. Our house goes front door, hallway and along the hallway you have a bedroom, bath and then the dining room before you hit the kitchen. It's where we put it if we have been out on walks.

Once we get our shed built, it will stay in the garage. Right now there is no room there for it.

Thanks for all your replies :-)

From your advice, I can deduce that:

1) The best place for the stroller is the trunk of the car (I hadn't even thought of that one!)

and

2) I need to get over myself and realise that my house isn't going to look like a show home once we have a LO! I particularly like @Mrs Superhero's reminder that the house is the child's home, too.... I'd not thought of it like that.

It's one of the downsides to waiting until your 30s to start your family - I've had 13 years of living in my own place; sharing mu space with the husband was a big enough learning curve, never mind a child!!

Again - thanks bees! Lots of ideas and a good helping of perspective = exactly what I needed!

In the car or the garage for the stroller.

At 7 months, there are toys all over the house. I do keep a couple bins for us to toss the toys in each night, but it doesn't always happen. Fairly often the toys migrate under the coffee table, so at least we aren't always tripping over them.

we keep our citymini in the trunk of the car -- we just grab it on the way out if we are going for a walk in the neighbourhood. otherwise, it's ready in the trunk for outings :)

we were worried about this at first, too, because we live in a tiny place :)

In our old place, we kept the stroller in the garage. This house has a small garage that is more like a shed so we can't store in there...we just keep them in the trunk of our car.

I keep toy storage furniture in our living room along with baskets to collect books, toys, blankets, etc. I usually put the baby gym in the LO's closet so it still looks like toys haven't taken over my house. Oh I have to add, we have a toy room at my parents house! Their house has 4 empty bedrooms (well not empty but no one lives there) so they offered to take a lot of the big toys so it's not over crowded at our house.

Ours will live in one of the cars. We live in a second floor condo, with hardly any storage space, so the car it is. This is a big reason were very seriously considering the City Mini or City Mini GT. We still need trunk room so a stroller with a small footprint is a must.

In the car.

We have a little two bedroom house, so we keep the toys to a minimum. The nursery closet has toys in it, she has a play kitchen in my kitchen, a little art table by my desk, and a bookcase and basket of toys in the living room. My strategy is to just not have any big ugly toys, her stuff looks nice in my decor and has a place because it's her home too!

Trunk of car or garage mainly.

As for the play area, we bought a 5'x6' "fun" rug (the one we have looks like a vegetable garden and is from Ikea) which we've put in one corner of our living room; our floorplan sounds similar to yours - we have a kitchen/dining area and a living room downstairs and 3 BR upstatirs. All of DD's toys are kept in that corner/on the rug and while she can take them off the rug to play they have to be put back each night before bed or if we are leaving the house to go somewhere. We got the rug and started this when she was around 2 (currently 28m) and she pretty much does this without being told anymore. It really helped define the play area without making the whole room look like a playroom.

Our umbrella stroller that we use when we're out stays in the trunk of our car. We also have a travel system that used to stay in the trunk, but now we don't use it as much (only when we're going somewhere that we'll be eating on the go and we'll need the tray) so we just use it during walks around the neighborhood and keep it in the garage.

You kind of get over the idea of your house not looking like a giant playroom, lol. Slowly but surely we kept adding baby things. First it was the swing, the bouncer, the high chair, the jumparoo, all of a sudden our house was filled with all things baby and it wasn't even toys yet! But that's just life with a kid. Now we have one of those giant foam letter mat things because we have tile so it's less scary for her to play on in the middle of the living room. Not pretty.... but oh well. I think toy box's work well for just throwing toys in quickly to keep the house looking a little cleaner.

Thankfully we have a large front porch/laundry room that has room for the stroller (fully assembled) to be tucked into the corner. It's great because when LO was younger I could throw her in there (straps done up) and run around and get the last few things I needed for a walk (and pee! haha). Very handy!

I guess I'd keep it in the garage if I couldn't keep it there. In the winter we store it down in our basement.

We are planning on making one room a designated playroom ... Although in a 3 bedroom house that might not be so easy... So maybe more just a designated area? Toys are still going to get everywhere though so I just plan on teaching them to pack things away after they play ( instead other mums laughing at me here) as for the stroller... Hmmm I hadn't thought of this. I kinda planned on keeping packed in the car or in the garage?

Hi All

Right, a bit of advice, please!

We're TTC our first child and we know it could take a little while so we're using this time to get our house ready (we bought it 5 months ago).

It's a three bedroomed house with an upstairs bathroom. Downstairs is a through-lounge and dining room (knocked into one room) and a tiny kitchen. It really is a little, compact house - but we love it!

We've started on the hall, stairs and landing because it's the most difficult part. Our entrance hall has enough room for a stroller to be parked in it when we are not using it - but I want to avoid that if I can (I want my house to be as pretty as can be, whilst being functional). Any ideas? We don't have a lot of room anywhere else - lol!

Also - how do you stop your home from becoming one giant play room when they're older? Do you have any hints or tips I can work into my design now, before it's too late and the LO is here!!!

Thanks very much! :-)
