I won't even put my groceries in the cart seat... I know I will have to get over this at some point. Cart covers seem like a pain to use though and the one I have is so bulky. It is AMAZING to me though, how many people watch me put DD in the cart while I'm wearing DS and don't offer to help..... When she was a teeny tiny she'd go in the stroller. I never had to go to the store by myself.... for big grocery trips DH or my mom would go for me. But, I've yet to go to the store by myself. She's a bit more difficult and cranky so it doesn't sound fun to me to have to deal with a possible meltdown in a store while shopping. When DH is with me, we know one of us can take her out to the car to calm her down. She is getting better though so soon that shouldn't be an issue. I just don't buy huge amounts and save that for when I can go by myself. But my oldest sits on the shopping cart. Luckily he likes to sit rather than walk. I never had a great solution. Once she could go in the cart around 6 months, a whole new world opened up. She *loves* sitting in the cart and seeing everything at the store. Now shopping is one of our favorite activities. Not the top, it makes me nervous. If we are in a mall, she goes in a stroller. Sometimes I'll use her front carrier, but after a while, that gets heavy. I can't wait until she can sit up on her own!
