Luckily property values are cheap there--a nice house (nicer than we could ever afford here) is only like $150k. And pretty much have been here ever since. Well definitely be here until our girls go graduate high school. We plan to stay here after as wel but I'm not sure if we'll retire here? I was born and raised in western PA, moved around a whole bunch after college and have been really happy in western NY for the last 4 years. But, I don't know what the job market will look like when I finish my PhD in a few years. We've always said that if I don't get a teaching gig that we would move to DC so I could work for the government. It sounds harder now post-kids, but that may end up being what we do.
