Our kids are 16 months, so we just put up a small (4ft) lighted fake tree. They have done really well with it actually! I picked through my existing ornaments and found some safe ones, but we bought some new red jingle bells from dollar tree (already had some silver ones from pier one), and some felt/fabric stars and snowflakes from craft bazaars, and the kids each got a wooden ornament from littlesaplingtoys on etsy.

This year we are doing bows, painted acorns, and stringing popcorn and lights. All of our ornaments are in storage since we're living cross country for the year…..and my 19 MO is a terror and will probably tear down the whole tree anyhow :)

I have a few that DS has already broken so I'm looking to replace them with more kid friendly less-breakable, YET not-too-kid-looking ornaments. Maybe something plastic or felt?

I've already looked on Crate & Barrel, West Elm, visited Target and other than a pair of felt penguins from C&B, everything looks super breakable.
