DS mostly plays in his playroom. Sometimes, he will play in the kitchen or living room with his toys.

DS is only 5 months but he has a playmat in the corner of our living area where he plays during the day. When he's walking I intend to add little chairs and table, a bookshelf and a nice toy box. I want to get the ikea table and chairs and stain or paint it to match our decor so it isn't an eyesore (I really hate the whole plastic kiddy crap look).

We rotate toys between their rooms and the living room. They can play in either, but mostly the living room. Toys specific to their age go in their room, community toys and art supplies go in the living room. Our house isn't big enough for a playroom, so we share the space. I like us all being together unless they want a little quiet time.

The toys are in the living room. My LO won't go anywhere on her own, so it's just as well. We have two bins of toys under the end tables, a play kitchen in the corner, and a toy storage unit in the connected dining room. It's not that bad. Growing up, we had all our toys in our rooms, but we brought them into the living room to play, so it was still a disaster while we were awake.

We have no playroom and have one living area. Basically we sit in a sea of toys - even when they are put away.
I was thinking of exclusively having the kids' toys in their rooms and leaving only craft supplies and learning activities in the living area. So essentially the kids would be encouraged to play in their rooms. Does anyone do this? Or does everyone have play rooms.
Oldest is 3.5, so right now this basically only applies to her. Youngest is 1 month.
