The "official" advice here in the UK is to have babies sleep in the same room as you until at least 6 months. His mattress was on the floor for over a year, and we recently transitioned to using a bed frame this month. He has gotten into the habit of joining us in bed in the middle of the night though. :( DS2 is 14 months old and sleeps in a crib in his room. He still wakes up 2x+ and not quite sleeping through the night. We're working on that one. My son did not so it was not a shocking transition. Also it is encouraged for attachment when they come home. I think it's great for people that do it but it is not for us. It's pushed against the wall and has a guard rail DH made for him on the other side. So now it's become his room.
