To get him to stay awake more, I would hang out with him in a quieter room. He cried pretty much any time I wasn't holding him for more than 5 minutes. It used to take me like 3 hours to take a shower and get dressed! The turning point was 2 months--he would sit in his swing for periods of time or nap by himself on *our* bed. He had an aversion to sleeping in his bassinet during the day--go figure. I ended up putting DS in his bouncy seat, his car seat or on the floor on a blanket the majority of the time. That way, I could get him involved with whatever I was doing with DD, and interact with both kids at once. ETA: DS also spent a lot of time in the Moby, once my husband went back to work and everyone left. Right now she splits her time between the bouncy seat and grandma's arms... Where does your newborn spend their waking hours, if they have any?? She sleeps all day then stays up all night!!
