The first few weeks in her bassinet by our bed. When we switched to a smaller room because of ants we coslept. Around 7 weeks we started swaddling her and putting her in the crib in her room.

LO slept in her crib, which is in our room, from the first day we got home. I considered a cosleepet but since her crib is in our room we nixed the idea. We didn't have many options for her so she didn't have a choice. Surprisingly she never had trouble sleeping in the crib. We had to keep her swaddled though, otherwise she was pissed! After the first few weeks of the sleepy newborn phase, I started having trouble getting her to nap so we had to bring in the swing. She didn't love it but it worked when she was super exhausted. Now she doesn't even use the swing since we try to encourage her to sleep in her crib. The Fisher Price projection mobile with Sleep Sheep rain noise is the magic combo for naps.

@regberadaisy: Charlotte stopped napping a lot during the day when she hit her 2 week growth spurt and then started sleeping a 5-6 hour stretch at 2 1/2 weeks. She still does nap a lot sometimes but mostly she might catch an hour in the morning and then 2-3 in the afternoon. I have found that she has started sleeping longer at night and goes down easier at bedtime when she doesn't nap a lot. She'll be 7 weeks on Tuesday,

@cvbee: she will sleep in one of those but only during the day. I think she really has her days and nights confused!

Last night she slept in the bassinet double swaddled for almost 3the hours and that's the longest so far. She started screaming after that so she just slept the rest of the night on my chest.

@Mrsdaredevil: have you considered trying one of these? I know a few people who had issues with their babies sleeping flat on their backs and this seemed to help: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Newborn-Rock-Sleeper-Yellow/dp/B002M77N22/ref=sr_1_5?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1337459548&sr=1-5

I have to say it's reassuring to hear that there are others with newborns that don't nap during the day.
I thought newborns were suppose to sleep 16-20hrs a day! I'm starting to think that's a old wives tale!

She slept in the "newborn napper" attachment on our Pack N Play. We pulled it right up against the bed, double swaddled her, and turned on the vibrating mode. The vibration was key to getting her to sleep. We also use a white noise Sleep Sheep when she goes to bed. Just last night we finally got her to sleep in the Pack N Play bassinet without the newborn napper.

So far, (11 days in) she has yet to nap much during the day other than in someone's arms/snuggled against me on the couch. That's partly because there's been a lot of grandparent time :) At night she's sleeping in the nap nanny. We've found that's the only "baby gadget" that she will sleep decently in. Granted, it's only at night that she will sleep well there. During the day we only get about 30 minutes before she wakes up.

She sleeps in her Summer Infant By Your Side Sleeper. It's basically a mini bassinet that stays in bed with us. It has structured sides with mesh walls.
This week she has been near impossible to put down for a nap during the day but sleeps decently at night. Her favorite is definitely to nap in our arms in the cradle position and sometimes laying on her stomach on our chest. I've found that I have to keep her in my arms for a bare minimum of 30 minutes before putting her in her sleeper. Otherwise she almost always wakes up crying.
She actually has no issues sleeping on her back, she just loves to turn her head to the left. So we have to be conscious of switching her around so her head shapes properly. She does not like to sleep flat on her head so I think soon we have to think of something so she doesn't end up with a cone head!

She liked her swaddle the first couple days. But now not so much, she likes to move her arms and legs around too much.

I have definitely noticed her sleeping patterns changing week by week (she'll be 3weeks today!). So hopefully the no day napping was just a week 2 phase!

Our little one doesn't seem to like her bassinet yet either, even in a nice swaddle. We've been using the bassinet that came with her pack and play. It vibrates and is more contoured. We spent a few nights with it between DH's and my head but now just have the pnp beside our bed with her settled into that. She's sleeping like a champ in it

I cuddle nap with my 3 week old during the days in the recliner. I feel safer there knowing I can't roll over. I also put her down in the fisher price rock and play sleeper during the day. She loves her hands so I only swaddle for bed time. At night she goes swaddled into her pack and play which has a bassinette built in which is in our room. I nurse or supplement feed her and then lay her on my chest swaddled and pat her back for gas till she's out cold then transfer her. It's been working great! Of course I have no idea when to transition to the crib...

I haven't been able to get her to sleep anywhere but my arms or chest. When she's out cold and I put her (swaddled) in her car seat or bassinet, she wakes up RIGHT away and won't go back to sleep. She sleeps so well when I hold her that I haven't oushed trying other ways as much as I should. She'll be two weeks on Monday and I feel generally caught up on sleep and not as sore. I will be actively trying to get her to sleep in her bassinet this week!

He prefers to sleep in his carseat. That's when he gets the most sleep. The doctor said its because it's upright and tight. We also found that he didn't like the lights off the first week and a half or so, we are guessing maybe because of the nursery lights being on at the hospital all the time? Thankfully we have dimming lights so we could get some sleep because he's sleeping in our room, in the pack n play, in his carseat.

For the first 2 weeks or so, she would only sleep in her bouncer with the vibrate on or on one of us. At 2 1/2 weeks, we started doing half the night in her crib. She's 6 weeks now and does from 8pm to 5am in her crib and then another couple hours with me or in her swing.

Sometimes we have to pick her up and rock and put her back down several times, but she always goes back in the crib. We do swaddle too, which really helps.

With Lala, we had the same issue. She'd only sleep on my chest or in the crook of my arm. 2 years later, she still needs my arm under her! With Maisie we were very strict about putting her down in the pack n play. We would pick her up, soothe her and put her back... even if it took a bunch of times. She is now a very good sleeper and sleeps in the crib.

@Mrsdaredevil: during the day does she sleep on her back? Are you swaddling her? I find in a warm, tight swaddle Nico can make the transfer . Could you try her sleeping on her back beside you in your bed and then transferring her? Keep experimenting. Let us know if you find something that works. In the meantime, try to nap in the day!

for the first week she only slept while being snuggled, so she slept in my hubby's arms (so I could get some rest). Then for about 2 months she only slept in the swing. Now at 3.5 months she sleeps in the bassinet beside me in bed. In another couple months she'll be in the crib in the next room with her sister (in the room...not the crib obviously).

Don't stress it, they get more independent as they get older :)

Same with my LO. We spent the first four weeks takin turns holding our son. That's what spurred cosleeping, he wouldn't sleep in the co sleeper. By 4 weeks we'd had enough and just brought him into bed with us. And it's working out well for us but I know it's not for everyone.

We have spent only 4 nights with our baby so far so I know things will change a lot over the next few weeks. So far, our baby has yet to sleep in her bassinet or crib at night time. She does great sleeping during the day, but at night the only place she will sleep is on my chest or my husband's chest. Every time we set her down somewhere, she screams! She only does this at night time though.

When your baby was brand new, where did he/she sleep at night? Any tips or tricks on getting her to sleep somewhere else so I can get some sleep too?
