@winniebee: So I would get the baskets, and put the picture in a pocket on the side of the basket. You can get those little plastic protector sleeves.

@Pepper: I don't think we can because walls are adobe and we are just renting it right now so don't want to put hole in wall. But I like this idea for our next home!

We just bought a basket that's lined and put it all in there. It works well for us!

Can you hang the pots and pans on the wall behind or next to the play kitchen? Maybe with command hooks? I like the idea of shelving for the food... like a store!

Okay-- here you can see where they took pictures of what goes in each basket:

It's easy to change the pictures if you rotate out toys, and really helps as you start to expect your children to participate at clean up time. Plus if you have friends over, they can see for themselves how to find what they would like to use.

There are lots of ways to do it-- for smaller kids I really like to use photographic organization tools. Take pictures of the things that go in a certain bucket or place on the shelf, and tape the picture to where the items belong. It helps with clean-up, and also can help insure that if you are using buckets, or some other sort of storage where things aren't as easily visible, that they are not black holes. The child can identify what he is looking for using the picture, and find it more easily. I think I might get some small baskets that could be used for playing with also, like these: http://www.worldmarket.com/product/harvest-round-michelle-baskets.do?page=2&from=fn I love things like that that can be milti-use. You can use them for shopping, or as a place for a doll to sleep, or as a cave for an animal to live in...

T got a play kitchen for christmas and loves it. He also got pots and pans and a bunch of food. Some of it stores well in the play kitchen but the rest I feel like is all over the place, especially stuff with little pieces (ie, melissa and doug pizza, sandwich set...)

Where/how do you store and organize play food?
