DS did not get his first tooth until 2 weeks before his 1st birthday. Other than a very low fever, he didn't have any signs and we just woke up one day to a tooth. That was how all of his subsequent teething has gone. They just appear.

I never noticed any signs of teething with my baby and her bottom teeth seemed to pop up overnight.

My toddler drooled a little when her molars came in!

@PrincessBaby: we've been proclaiming LO's top tooth as "coming soon" since the 4th of July.. ha! It actually is finally cutting, as of this morning I could see white. It's so hard to know. With his bottom two, they bugged him when they actually cut through and then again when they seemed to almost double in height. Hope hers comes down soon!

@PrincessBaby: "my sister was like, "I hope so! I have been hearing about this tooth for so long that I feel like we need to throw it a party when it finally arrives!" - omg I LOL'd for real at this! I feel the same way - like I've been saying she's "teething" since 2-3 months old! :/

For your sake and H's, I hope the tooth/teeth come tomorrow!

@hilsy85: I've seen the darker gum line/slit for about 6 weeks now, and the white points for a couple of months! I check her gums a few times every day too.

@PrincessBaby: Oh, one trick I read online is to wrap an ice cube with a washcloth and get it a little damp then give it to them to suck on (I tie it off tight with a rubber band and keep a close eye on her). We have had great success with that (even when it ended up not being teething).

Teething SUCKS!!! the bad news is that once the tooth pokes through, it can still take for-freaking-ever for the dang chomper to actually come in. I swear, my LO's teeth move at the speed of molasses.

Do you have any cool/frozen teethers? Those helped LO more than Tylenol, as did a cool, wet washcloth. Sometimes just putting my finger in her mouth and gently massaging her gums helped too. Good luck!

My LO has been working on tooth number 5 for WEEKS. Seriously, the very tip of the tooth first poked through about 3-4 weeks ago and it is still just barely poking out from her gum... < 1/4 of the way out! Sometimes these teeth are sloooooow!!!! :(

I hope H's tooth/teeth come in soon and shee (and you) get a break!

A grew four shiny pearly whites last week - all at once! She was a happy teether actually and didn't scream/cry but did wake up/drool all the time. Advil was our best friend

It sounds like teeth are right around the corner for H, you'll probably notice a little white tip poking through over the next few days, then the rest of the tooth follows pretty quick!

@PrincessBaby: Tors two bottom came in at the same time with the right one just a smidge ahead of the left. The top two came in simultaneously. I think teething is kind of the same as gas in a newborn. I remember has being blamed everytime he cried a a newborn and for infants and young toddlers its teeth. Otherwise we lose our minds wondering WTF is making them so unhappy. I really think she does have teeth coming in right now though.

I hate to say that this feeling does not go away anytime soon. P, who is almost 17 months, has been SERIOUSLY teething (fevers, drooling, fingers on gums, biting, screaming, clingy) for nearly 2 months. And still; nothing.

It's infuriating and like you we blame EVERYTHING on teeth. I can't wait for these damn things to cut through.

Oh, and to add, with P's first few teeth, all of the sudden she just had them. Like, was teething like crazy and the it just popped out.

We didn't know at was teething till I felt the first one after it popped through. She was drooling any more. We thought the increase spit up was due to her ear infection. Fussiness was a wonder week. Then I noticed the other was swollen and could see a white spot. It two or three weeks later before both teeth were popped through the gums. Hang in there!

@MrsMccarthy: Did T's bottom two come in at the same time? Same here! I remember posting a thread when she was like 3 months old and asking if she could be teething....Joke's on me! Homegirl still has zero teeth, lol...
@hilsy85: Ooooh, interesting....I will look for anything new on her gums...I have just been really looking for white....RIght now I just really notice that she has that little line in the middle at the bottom and then a puffy spot on either side. and one side is slightly more extra puffy!

It took about 2 weeks from when his gums were really swollen and he was super cranky for his teeth to cut through. I hope it happens soon for H!

ETA the first thing you'll see is this weird dark line on the gum--a day or two later, you'll be able to feel the sharp points of the tooth. Then out it comes!

@HLK208: THat's what I'm afraid of - that her gums will be swollen/hurting for months! Neither my mom or MIL can remember when we got our teeth, so I don't know if we were late teethers, so it's just a big fat mystery that I spend a lot of time contemplating, lol:)
@oliviaoblivia: I hope you're right! My sister was here last week and I said I think H is getting her tooth finally and my sister was like, "I hope so! I have been hearing about this tooth for so long that I feel like we need to throw it a party when it finally arrives!" And yes - that's exactly how H screamed. I'm all about CIO, but I immediately went to her because I felt like something had happened, she had really hurt herself or something! Scared me!

I soooo feel your pain! Tor didn't get his first teeth until he was 10 months old and they took a couple weeks to fully break through. We were just like you and blamed all f his behavior from 3-7months on potential teething. After that I started assuming he would never teethe! He has four teeth now. The bottom two came in at 10 months and the top two at 12. His top two teeth took a lot longer to break through than the bottoms and it took a long time before we saw any white bumps. I hope little H cuts them soon and is feeling better.

E didn't get her first tooth until 12 months! Her gums had been swollen for months. I thought something was wrong. But her two bottom teeth came in and then her two top teeth two weeks later. A month later 3 more teeth popped up but now she's 15 months and were wondering if her molars are ever going to come in!!! They will, of course but it's frustrating when it seems like teething lasts for so long.

I guess teething posts go in Baby Health...

My LO is almost 10 months and doesn't have any teeth. But this past week, she's had a few nights where she woke up HYSTERICAL, and I was really alarmed that something had happened or she was hurting. Long story short, I checked her out, changed her diaper, took her temp, nursed her, only to put her back down and she woke up not too much later, wailing like she was terrified. I gave her Tylenol bc all I could muster was that she was in pain...She slept soundly after that. I have actually given her a dose at bedtime the past couple of nights and she hasn't woken up, so I'm assuming it's made her more comfortable...Her gums are SUPER SWOLLEN on the bottom front, and one side is definitely bulging although I don't see the white part.

I feel like we have been speculating for months that she's about to pop a tooth. And we blame all unexplained behavior on teething pain. Her ped said a few weeks ago that she would have a tooth very soon, and her gums are much more swollen than they were then.

How long does it take for the tooth to finally make it's appearance once you can feel an obvious bump? Lawd, her first tooth is like the most procrastinating tooth on the planet! Get out of there already!

FWIW, she has also been drooling a crazy amount the past couple of days - like soaking her shirt! And she never drools anymore and hasn't for a really long time. I thought it was weird....

So, place your bets - WHEN oh when do you think this tooth will grace us with it's presence???

ETA: This may be a super dumb question, but do you just wake up one day and a tooth is there? I check every morning, like I expect it to happen at night and she'll just wake up with a white tip poking through. Is that how it works?
