I was hardly hungry the first few weeks. Just too busy taking care of a newborn! Then I got my appetite back but I've never felt like I eat anymore than what I did pre-pregnancy. My son is 8 months now. I do have bouts where it seems I'm hungrier than normal.

I wasn't hungry at all for the first month or two. My mom had to force me to eat and I only ate what i thought would be good for making milk. My appetite gradually returned and I get ravenous now.

In the early days I don't think you have time to feel hungry. Everything else is so overwhelming. I snacked a lot and my mom made a lot of soup.

I wasn't very hungry the first 5 weeks and my supply was fine. I drank a lot of water and tried to eat at normal times even if it was just a few bites.
My appetite was crazy after my first LO was born!

Yup, in the beginning, I wasn't hungry. However, then it got crazy when I went back to work. I'm 7 months out and still have ridiculous appetite! Like sometimes wanting a second dinner appetite.

@rahlyrah: Totally normal! It will return.

Are you still taking any medication? I was taking so many things that were upsetting my stomach (pre-natal, vitamin D, stool softener, pain meds, fenugreek, etc.) My doctor advised me on which ones I could quit taking to help alive the nausea. He also suggested spacing them out and not taking them all at once (but who has the time to remember to take a different pill every hour or two with a newborn? Not I.)

I didn't have much of an appetite until after 3 months... then it got crazy!

In the early days I ate a bowl of oatmeal a day & drank some MMT (sometimes iced sometimes hot) to help my supply... some days that'd be all I ate until DH got home!

@rahlyrah: this happened to me too! I forced myself to eat. The calories are important. DH and our moms made sure I was eating enough. I felt lightheaded if I didn't. My appetite did eventually come back on its own.

How old is your LO? I had absolutely no appetite at first. In fact, I was extremely nauseous most of the time.

My appetite picked up slowly over time. I'm 7 months in now and it is pretty intense :)

@rahlyrah: The first few weeks I didn't feel hungry at all (a first for me). I think eating just seemed like one more thing to worry about. The hunger came later for me.

I can't say I wasn't hungry, but I was never and still am not more hungry than I was before breastfeeding. I would try to get your three meals a day and some healthy snacks in, but don't worry too much. Your body knows what you need. Try some oatmeal for breakfast. I started eating it recently because at 4 1/2 mos LO is still eating like a mad woman, and I have more milk that I know what to do with! I am leaking again like I did in the first few weeks!

I've been having this problem as well. It doesn't help when you're also too busy and tired to put a meal together! Hoping some wise ladies have good tips and ideas...

I have always heard the BFing causes you to be hungry all the time. For me, not only am I not extra hungry, I'm really not hungry at all. I don't know if it is stress or what but I can only bring myself to eat like a meal and a half a day. I am scared this will hurt my supply and I will be lacking nutrients for my baby.

Has this happened to anyone else? How did you reestablish your appetite?
