We do timeout in a corner of the living room. I make him turn towards the walls so he has less sensory input. The one time we really need him to stop flipping out we used his room. And I had to stay there the whole time while he kept trying to get out.

DD 17 months I have sat down by the back wall/hall area when she continues to jump on couch!
I sit her down and tell her it's not safe and turn away
I don't make her sit there but she gets the point that I am upset and if she gets up I tell her to say sorry and give me. ahug, I've done this a few times works so far!

Time out and calm down space are pretty much one and the same- her bed. We have a small two bedroom condo so there aren't a lot of options. I worried about making her bed her punishment spot but so far it's ok. It's more about how I put her there. When she really just needs to calm down I am calm, sometimes I sit quietly with her while she calms down. More often she is going crazy and I'm losing it in response and I'm yelling at her as I put her there (being honest here!). That's when she knows it's a punishment.

I'm still working on the whole toddler discipline thing...

I sit my toddler in time out on tile floor against the pillar of our fireplace in the middle of the living room. I wanted to make it as uncomfortable as possible, lol. We only use time out for punishment though. We use her anywhere chair to calm down and reading books.

We do time out more so for DD to calm down than punishment (although it totally happens for that occasionally when needed!).

I used to sit her on a chair in the hall (one story house) which worked, until my toddler was concerned and kept going up to her. Which set my preschooler off. Fun cycle.

Then I tried her room which worked but my Mom suggested not using her 'safe space' as time out..

So now I use my room. Sigh. I have to hold the door shut, too, because she tries to come out the entire time.
