Wait, no one say San Francisco? And the west coast if you have more days ?

We used to live there for a few years. Weather can not be beat until you have to live there and you'd think why is it freezing cold all the time lol (as we had to get up early every morning for the commuter train!). We went back with DS a few years ago while DH worked. We rode the caltrain from san jose to san francisco (DH's office is in SJ), then we went into the city, took the cable car, strolled around fisherman's wharf (there are sea lions sun bathing there at one of the piers, it is so much fun to see I can easily stand there for an hour lol, DH picked us up we went to Golden Gate bridge, Sausalito for dinner. That was just one day with me and LO with no car (well, until DH picked us up). Such a wonderful time. It is always sunny in California

If you have more time (SF can maybe last you 3-4 days), you can always venture out to napa valley, Hearst Castle at san simeon, stay at madonna inn if you are into quirkiness, LA, and even more south in to San Diego. The weather in the west coast is another world, I remember one of my colleagues was saying, the first time he traveled to the west coast and he found it fascinating to see the condensation forming outside of a glass of ice water!

I think Montreal would be a great choice, if you're willing to (slightly) leave the country. It's a really manageable city, amazing food, and fun things to do for 6 year olds, including my favorite, the Insectarium (http://museesmontreal.org/en/museums/montreal-insectarium-space-for-life).

I would recommend DC but summer here is as bad as TX is, so... :)

Have you thought about doing an Alaska cruise? If he's into nature and animals, that might be a cool experience, and it's easy enough to manage on a cruise ship on your own, and summer is a good time to go. I've seen a bunch of deals on Travelzoo for Alaska cruises, too.

New Orleans is just as muggy as Texas; however, they have the Audubon Nature Reserve and the Zoo, as well as, swamp tours. (I lived there about 3 years and worked at XULA.)

Hilton Head is lovely and the weather would be spectacular (although still a bit muggy)! There are beaches, museums, lighthouses, and many nice restaurants that are child-friendly.

My favorite place in the world is Hawaii as I have lived there twice. It may be a little bit out of the way, though. On Oahu- Besides Luaus and the zoo, there is the Aulani Disney resort, museums, beaches galore, hiking, biking, waterfalls ... everything!

Everyone loves Disney. Whether you choose FL or CA for your experience is up to you. In CA, you could also visit Legoland and Universal Studios. There are also beaches all up and down the 5. In San Diego, there is the zoo, the safari park, museums at Balboa Park, and Sea World. In Florida, there is Disney and the mini parks, Universal, Sea World, bonanza golf, K-1 speed, and the Orlando tree trek. There are also so many places to swim.

Another idea is staying at one of the many locations of Great Wolf Lodge. There are things to do for parents and kids, as well as, regional sights in the surrounding towns/cities.

My pick would be DC. Lots of museums to explore for free; the National Zoo is amazing and cool stuff to explore like the Eastern Market and if you rent a car the Billy Goat Trail.

I have a few weeks off of work this summer, and was thinking about traveling with just me and my older DS who is 6.

I'm having a hard time narrowing down the possibilities - Disneyland, NYC, Hilton Head, Colorado?? We live in Texas so want to get to somewhere with not such unbearable heat.

He's really into birds and nature but I think would like a city too. He's pretty enthusiastic about most things. Any suggestions?
