A park with a pavilion. Can set up some small games for the kids or even just play stations (blocks, coloring, etc).

Or a restaurant with an outdoor space where you could have something like cornhole for the adults and other things for kids (see above).

Do the barbecue outside, it still gonna be warm! It even can be a small house to rent outside the city. I am telling you, outside parties are always a better idea. It is such a fun because of all activities you can come up with. Everybody is so tired and satisfied at the end. And hungry! So the grill will be gone in the minute. We also usually do the vegan menu for out loved friends the choice of whom we respect. Barbecue is a win win situation!!

Do you have any small venue places in your area? Basically you get to transform an open space with your decor and bring in catered food. You could set up a kiddie corner with toys and an activity.

I have the same issue for DS. His 1st birthday is coming up and the only kids will be him and DD. I'm having it a mini golf place. I figure it's something for the adults and DD to do. I also considered our transit museum but they were being real jerks cause "the activities aren't appropriate for a 1 year old". Duh! It's the adults who would like seeing the old train stuff anyway. Super frustrating.

Somewhere that serves brunch! We did DS's first birthday as a brunch because tons of adults not many kids and it was a blast.

DS turns two in September and I'm struggling with ideas for his birthday party. We will likely have a lot more adults than kids (DH's entire extended family lives nearby), which seems to knock out kid-focused venues like play places, etc. We also probably wouldn't have enough kids to meet the minimum at those kinds of places - we might have 5-6 kids total depending on whether any daycare kids show up.

Any ideas for a venue or activity that would be adult-friendly but still fun for kids? We could host in our backyard but I don't love hosting, so I'm making that my backup option.
