No, just my mom and her friend and they'll be staying at my house, along with any of my friends. We have a lot of sleeping spaces. It's going to be a stressful weekend, more than likely

BB will you have anyone coming from out of town that will be staying in a hotel? If so maybe you could use one of their meeting rooms?

I asked my mom about co-hosting and having it at, say, my SIL's house (who always offers to host bridal and baby showers there--she hosted my bridal shower) but my mom said she doesn't want co-hosts and wants to throw it all herself =\. When I mentioned that my SIL will probably offer up her house, my mom insisted we don't do that and burden her.

We have the same issue as well, my mom wanted to throw me a shower but she lives in Washington DC.
We were looking at clubhouses and planned on doing that originally.
My sister in law asked where it was going to be, and I said we were still trying to find a location. She offered up her house which has a great patio and pool and is free - BONUS.

While I would never feel comfortable asking, she offered. Perhaps you have a close friend or family member that may be willing to provide the space and "co-host" with your mom?

Activities sound like a great idea! Showers are so boring, ha :)

I was thinking that a place where we could bring our own food/drink would be the cheapest option, and allow for the most flexibility. Sounds like a clubhouse is ideal.

I'm just overwhelmed by all the options, thanks for all these ideas! I really want to list a variety of stuff so that she can pick something she is comfortable spending.

It'll be January, so we'll have to be inside =(

I think a community clubhouse or an outdoor park would be good alternatives. If you have a smaller sized group I like the idea of a brunch type place with a nice courtyard, or a tea house.

I had mine at a restaurant in a function room. It's a nice place and they don't charge for the room and let us bring our own desserts.

I had mine at a minor league baseball stadium.... but it was a coed shower.

I've been to a couple of events, including showers, at small hotels that were nice.

I just went to a baby shower that was held at our local volunteer fire department. They have a hall that they rent out.

Restaurant, country club, neighborhood clubhouse, tea room, room at your church....those are all that I can think of right now. All I have been too have been at someone's house and restaurants.

I recommend a clubhouse in a home community or a country club. Clubhouse would be cheaper to rent and usually allow you to bring in outside catering. Meanwhile, country clubs are more expensive to rent and usually require you to use their in house catering.

What about a place you could pair with an activity, like a paint-your-own-pottery studio (and then everyone can decorate things for baby's room), or something like that? They generally have party rooms (and let you bring in whatever food you want), and it would be fun and different!

What about a tea house or tea room? Community center or room? If you like books, see if a library near you has a room that they rent out? If active in a church, ask to rent a room from them?Small meeting room at a hotel or bed and breakfast?

My mom is throwing my baby shower in a few months and she lives 5 hours away, so she asked me to compile a list of locations in my city for her, along with my favorite bakery.

I realize someone's home is common but I don't want that many people in my house and she said OK, let's have it somewhere else, no big deal.

Aside from a restaurant, what are the options I'm missing? I want her to have a variety of choices. I asked her about budget (food for 40 is pricey!) and she said money is no object. So that's not helpful.

I'm also not sure if evening or morning is a better option, either. Evening could just be appetizers and drinks, but that isn't as common.

Thoughts?
