I really like more traditional names. If we were to have a boy we like "James" for the middle name which is my FIL's name. We'd do "Ann" for the girl's middle name. It was my grandmother's middle name and mine before I moved my maiden name to my middle.

My husband is Jewish and there is a tradition of naming a baby for a deceased loved one. You don't give the baby the loved one's actual name, but generally a name that starts with the same letter. i.e. Hubs mom's name was Lorrayne. If we have a girl, she will be named Lauren. I think it's nice that you can have a tribute, but with a little flexibility.

We'll use versions of family names. For example, husband's grandma is "Louise" and I like "Eloise" for a middle name. I'd like them all to be connected to some sort of meaning!

Our daughter has a name that's Biblical (in a sense.. look up Mark 5:41), and after she was born we discovered that it was also a family name. Her middle name is a combination of her grandma's middle names.

My husband wants our boys to have two middle names and have their initials spell a word that we can use as a nickname, like J.E.B. Stuart. This makes it REALLY hard to pick. I also want to try to honor all the grandparents one way or another through names, so while I want a boy next I'm kind of afraid for it! Our frontrunner boy name is actually another combination media/family name... think iconic Schwarzenegger role and a red-haired talk show host. :)

We don't know for sure what we are naming Bug yet but my Aunt and cousin kept dreaming of our baby (several years ago) and they jokingly called him Adam since he was going to be the first born grandchild. We are nerds so we took it and ran - I love Chemistry and he loves physics so we were going to name our Bug Atom. I thought that was awesome for a but but realized he might face difficulties later in life so now we are back to Adam.

We don't have any relatives with the name and it's got this cool and calm sophistication to it.

I love the idea of having a family connection to a name (my siblings and I all have a family connection to either our first or middle name), so I'd like to keep that going. We also both like fairly traditional names (though I prefer that they not be very popular. I loved having a name that people had heard of, but I was the only kid in my class with that name).

The only problem right now is that my favorite name for a girl (it would be what we'd call her, a shortened version of her first name) is also the name of my sister-in-law's dog. I don't mind (I've met many a dog with my name), but I think my husband feels a bit weird about it (since he lived with his sister when she got the dog). So... we'll see how that one goes once we're actually faced with the decision!

I'm not TOO picky about names, but I do tend to gravitate toward more traditional ones.

My husband's only rule was that he can't know anyone in real life with the name. The only problem with this is that he's a very social, outgoing person, so practically every name I liked was out!

Surprisingly, my husband did not know anyone named Claire, and since I have always liked that name, we decided on it long before she was even born.

We're still keeping BebeDeux's name a secret, but it was the same deal with her.

I guess on one hand, it was a good thing that BebeDeux didn't turn out to be a boy, because we still haven't chosen a boy's name.

We have two girl's names picked out already. One is a combination of my husband's grandmother's and great aunt's names. The second is a name (which we both love) from one of our favorite songs.

As for boy's names, we're still up in the air. We kind of just went down the boys names lists until we found one that we both really liked that aren't too common. The middle name will be DH's middle name, which was his dad's middle name, which was his grandmother's maiden name (got that?)

No little ones for us yet, but we've got a head start on the names.

If a boy, DH wants him to have the same initials as him. This means we need a first name that begins with a "J" and a middle name that begins with a "D". We decided on Daniel as the middle name since that is a family name on DH's side. The first name is one we haven't quite come to an agreement on yet, but DH might disagree, as he has a name that he is set on. lol The only reason I'm not fully on board with it is because I have a family member with the same name whom with I have a weird connection. So I'm not sure how I feel about using it yet.

If a girl, we have a name already picked out. The first name is one that I heard years ago in an old tv series. I liked it, but didn't know how DH would feel about it until I mentioned it to him and he grabbed a hold to it as "THE" name for our little girl. The middle name is a shortened version of a bible name that is also a shortened version of my best friend's/cousin's name.

Otherwise, I am constantly on the lookout for names that I like and write them down every time I come across a new one I like. It could be from a book/movie/tv show/news article/anything really.

I've actually had a name picked out (for a girl) since I was a teenager. It is a fairly normal name, but it came from two women (with the same name) that I looked up to and found inspiring.

Unfortunately... I no longer feel like I can use the name as it's the same name as one of my husband's first cousins. Oh well!

All we have agreed upon so far is that we definitely want traditional (nothing made up) Irish names to keep with out heritage and go with our lastname too. We also have agreed our first daughter's middle name will be after my grandmother who I was extremely close to until she recently passed away.

We named our daughter Mio (美桜) — a Japanese name written with the Chinese characters, “beauty” and “cherry blossom,” translating to “beauty of the cherry blossom(s)”. She was born in early April, when cherry blossoms are in full bloom, so we thought it was appropriate. It's easy to spell, and is pronounced mee-oh, which I feel is pretty easy to say, compared to a lot of other Japanese names.

for our son, we just liked the name (first name)...his middle name is my great grandmother's maiden name.

for our soon to be daughter, there is a naming tradition in my family that predetermines her first name...her middle name will be my husband's grandmother's name and that's the name she'll go by

Not TTC yet but very soon. :)
We have names picked out. At this point it is really any name that both me and the husband likes. Which is not many.

There is one name that is named after a character in Superman. Husband is a big comic book geek. I liked the name Lara but husband doesn't. He likes the name Lana... like Lana Lang from superman. I actually like that name, too. So that's one name, we will probably pick out one more. Picking out girl's names are harder than boys for us. We have two boy names already.

I think the hardest part is finding something... anything that we both can agree on.

Mavrick (we took out the E (Maverick) to avoid miss pronunciation in french) comes from the classic Top Gun Movie. Obviously. Though my parent (clearly much older) feel as though we named our son after the Ford Maverick car which was a horrible LEMON !! haha ... crazy how generations think differently.

Yeah, like a few others, we aren't pregnant yet. We have a bunch of girl names we love but haven't talked about boy names. Thus the wanting a girl to make it easy. :) I think we'll end up using my middle name that I dropped for my Maiden name. Other than that, it will probably be a classic sounding name with a classic spelling. We're not interested in trying to be different, other than naming our child a name that is not in the top 100 names.

Not even close to pregnant yet, but we've had names picked out for quite awhile. My husband is a II, so we're sort of stuck with Derrick Patrick, III if we have a boy (not so excited about that), but we'll be calling our future baby boy Tripp. Our girl pick is Heidi Lois. Heidi has ALWAYS been my favorite girl name pick and Lois is my husband's grandmother's name. He's the only child of his grandmother's only child, so we want to pass along a bit of his family.

This is all in the hypothetical stage right now because we're not pregnant, but we do talk about names a lot. The girl name we love is just a first name that we like (Kara) and the middle name would be my mom's maiden name (Sommer). We have no idea for a boy, but probably David for a middle because that's my father-in-law's name.

My sons name is Keyan. It was a cross between seeing a similar name and making up a name. I just put a twist on an old name I came across. I love names that are a little different but still easy to sound out (if that makes sense).

We already have names picked out, and they tend to be names of family members combined with names that we like. I'm really big into the meaning of names and so the research has been fun. Also, since we're both twins, we tend to try to find names that sound good in pairs. Right now our top boy choices are Michael Scott and Timothy James. For girls we have Jessica Grace and Amelia Marie.

We're Team Green due in Feb. If its a boy, he'll be named after my husband, Richard Carter, III and go by Carter. If its a girl she'll be named after my parents middle names - Jane & Lee, combined into Janely. We're torn on a girl middle name and probably won't decide until we deliver. But the contenders are Ruth after my grandma and my husband's mom and sister's middle names and Lucille, just a name we like :)

I have two different inspirations- my daughter's first name was one I'd always liked and is from a popular children's book series. It's also very close to my husband's favorite band's name, so he was happy with it. Her middle name is my sister's first name.

For our next child, my husband gets naming rights, and I get veto power. I named our daughter and both our cats so he says it's his turn! But if it's a girl, her middle name will be my other sister's first name.

Mr. N and I each have a very informal (since we're not yet TTC) list of names we like. Most of these, we've stumbled across in movies or books, and a few are the name of--or similar name to--a family member's name. Just wondering where your kids' name will come from. Family name? Media-inspired? Just a name you like? Or made up totally?
