With my son I was soooo excited and couldn't wait to tell everyone. I'm not sure if it's because I had a miscarriage before this pregnancy and I'm just nervous or if it's because I haven't had many symptoms this time and it just doesn't feel real. Don't get me wrong, I'm still very happy. Was not expected at all. Baby #2 has been planned and we've tried since our LO was 2. After 3 years, unexplained infertility, a lot of heartache and disappointment I want to say I'm so excited but I'm hesitant. We weren't expecting to get pregnant the second we stopped preventing, and I sort of freaked out as I wasn't totally prepared to be pregnant again whilst still nursing an 11 month old. I spent a lot of my pregnancy fluctuating between being super happy about having siblings close in age, and being so sad that I wasn't going to be able to focus all of my attention on DD1 anymore. My first LO was a surprise and we definitely weren't ready so it took me a few weeks to get used to the idea. Plus I had a high rate of miscarriage so I didn't want to get too attached. My second bfp I was very excited because we had been trying to 12 months and nothing had happened until then - that one ended in miscarriage though. My third pregnancy I got more excited as the weeks went by and no sign of miscarriage. I was finally starting a career after extra school and PT work in another field out of college, then stay at home motherhood. It wouldn't have been my dream job, either one of them, but it was a start so that was exciting. When I found out I was excited but also kind of sad because I knew things were going to change so much and I didn't feel ready. I can't say I was less excited than with LO1 because I got pregnant with him soon after a miscarriage so I was more nervous than excited. I had decided that I was done, that after three years of not preventing it just wasn't going to happen, and that I was ready to go back to work, really focus on my fitness gains, and to just move on. I told my husband this and he was just heartbroken - he was so sad at the thought of not having a second. So, I told him that I would think about it and try to be more open to another. Boom, pregnant the next month. </p> <p>I was initially so pissed. Like, really? I have to lose all this fitness and be pregnant for 10 months and then nurse a baby all night for a year? I was excited about the prospect of another child, but the hard baby stuff and the pregnancy part just seemed so overwhelming. Thankfully I've had a really easy pregnancy so far (23 weeks, so give me time), I've still been able to exercise and even improve my fitness to a certain extent. I'm not uncomfortable at all right now, even, so that's really helping. I've also gotten really excited about having a baby, way more than I expected to. It was disappointing to see the job I wanted post over the winter and to not apply, but it'll come around again in a few years. </p> <p>I was always excited about the long term prospect of having another kid, but the short term hard work was really not appealing.
