I grew up ina small town where the buss would pick up HS and Jr high kids. My brother was in either 6 or 7 grade and this senior on the bus would spit on him..I mean gross booger spit and he would taunt him.it was awful.my parents told the principal the teachers.everyone! But no body did anything about it. It got really bad and my cousin who was a senior in high school came to live with us because he was getting into gangs in L.A. My brother was coming home in tears. So my parents sent my cousin to go pick my brother up from school.where he proceeded to beat the crap out of him. And told the guy that if he ever even looked at my brother he would find him. Scared the guy so bad that even the police came and he wouldn't say anything..not the best way to handle it but that guy was terrible. My parents knew what would happen if my cousin went there and let him. That was the last time my brother was ever picked on. He also put on some muscle pounds and became the guy everyone wanted to be friends with. I was like....not EVERYONE else, just a lot of you. Hehe. That sounds so much worse in print. In real life I was trying to be funny, but also point out that yeah, I had my sights set on something in life a little bit more exciting than my population 2,000 dusty west Texas town. </p> <p>I left there when I graduated HS and literally never lived there again, not even during summer break from college. That thing where grownups couldn't really put their finger on what's going on, or no one could openly see that they were being mean, you know? The school I attended did a horrible job at dealing with bullying and since it was small the primary bullies tended to be the ones with parents on the board &amp; highly involved so they got away with just about anything. The teachers all know as do the parents, but the kids are just assholes and obviusly know how to work the system since they're involved in everything and have the teachers all wrapped around their fingers. </p> <p>It was worse in elementary because the kids were physical with them, but I think it's been far less often and strictly verbal at this point. Not that that makes it ok. My brothers have just adapted to stay away from them, at this point. But I feel bad that they've both really resorted to being less social because of it. They're lucky that my younger sister, who just graduated, took care of them, as well as her friends since they started high school. I lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere; I had no idea what Nike was. But once I got that figured out, it was fine.<br /> But my younger twin brothers have been picked on since elementary school by the same group of boys. They're in high school now and don't participate in any extracurricular activities because they hate being at school and those boys are in everything. My bullies were my step siblings, who made fun of me, spread rumors about me (all the way up through high school), and got other classmates talking about me and also bullying me. The same stuff happened at home, but with my step dad. I don't know why they didn't like my sister and I, we were good kids. He mostly did that stuff while my mom was at work. I think my mom thought there was innocent teasing going on (like mild jokey stuff), but didn't realize how bad it was. Nothing ever happened, but my life and relationships with stepfamily got significantly better when I went away for college and saw them less often. Some acquaintances from high school believed made up rumors about me for years, though. Because of this experience, being mean to kids and willing to tease them like that was an instant dealbreaker in any relationship. I told my mom, who told the principal and guidance counselor. They said the girl was one of like ten kids and was probably taking out some of the bullying she got at home on me. I will never forget his laugh! I didn't tell anyone but I did go straight to the school gym and started pumping iron. Put on 50 pounds of muscle and ended up playing high school football (which would've been unthinkable at my former scrawny size).</p> <p>I probably never would have done any of that without being clotheslined so I guess I owe that kid a thank you!</p> <p>Where you bullied or beat up as a kid?
