He asked my dad, got down on one knee, everything. </p> <p>The only thing that disappoints me is that I was taking his picture as he knelt down to propose (he was originally just standing by the water...didn't know he was going to do that) but when he started proposing I freaked out and didn't snap the shutter! I knew it was coming. DH knew I loved the beach, but we unfortunately ended up on a Washington beach...at sunset...on a brisk day. It was SO cold! I was so excited, even though I knew it was coming. Bummer was that he didn't have a ring! His plan was to propose at sunset but he realized once we were on the island that we were on the side where the sun rises over the ocean so had to switch up his plan. The plan was to get married after college, so I expected a proposal to happen sometime after I graduated. He totally surprised me and proposed shortly after my 21st birthday. Down on one knee and asked my parents and the whole thing. We got married the next year while I was in college. I wished he thought of asking me to marry me on his own without having a discussion but that's just who he is. It was my fault though. We were supposed to go out to dinner in the city and he'd planned to recreate our first date and propose. However, before I could change to go out, I got a bad news letter in the mail, started crying, and said I didn't want to go out. He then told me, "Crap, I had a big evening planned...I was going to propose." I said, "What?! Why are you telling me this now?!" I was even more bummed out. He finally talked me into a walk at the local nature preserve/swamp...and he ended up proposing there. I was still in a bad mood, but he did get down on one knee and we had a nice dinner at a local place after. But yeah, it totally felt like plan B. I had a strong suspicion it was coming, an then when we went home I was like "huh guess not." Then he just went into our room and called me in there and was down on one knee, he said he got too nervous to do it at one of the "pretty" locations.
