@JennyPenny: some friends of mine just had a not so great air bnb experience in LA. I feel like i would rather just do a hotel and have peace of mind

I'd pick the one with two bedrooms. I have finicky sleepers though. They both need their own space that is dark and quiet.

@JennyPenny: honestly i think either will be fine! To me the only deal breaker is having your bedroom door close and sounds like that’s good on either.

@bhbee: hmmm....that's a really good question. Right now DS1 naps maybe half the time, so in a few months it may be less. And DS2 currently is on 2 naps, but again, may be down to just 1 by the time we go. I could see us trying to get back in time for naps because since it will be July in LA we may be getting hot and ready to take a break. But honestly, with the time change and the fact that its 2 months from now - I really have no idea - eek!

@JennyPenny: another question is whether you will ever have kids nap there. Like if the little one naps might be nice to have older one play outside. Or maybe one parents takes kids outside while one sleeps in. But if you’re out all day it won’t matter.

@bhbee: I think we'll be casual sight-seers. We have a wedding outside LA that we're traveling for and since the trip is entirely cross country for us, we figured we'd spend a few days in LA to make it more of a trip. So we'll be finding things to do, but there's nothing I'm dying to see specifically.

I went the other way and voted b. We’ve been going to a vacation place where we stay in a condo for a couple years and we only have had one bedroom. Kids sleep in living room on sofa bed and pnp or air mattress depending on ages. I find on vacation we’re all pretty tired so we’re happy to sit in bed and veg before falling asleep. My kids love getting to eat breakfast or other meals on the balcony! I don’t know what your eating plans are but often our kids are wiped by dinner and it’s easier to eat in. I love having the whole thing feel really kid friendly. But ours is not a sight seeing vacation so you may have different needs.

@JennyPenny: I'd probably vote for option A then. I like being able to put my kids in a room and still do stuff without them at night! And you probably won't be spending much time at the place anyway - just there for breakfast and to sleep probably!

@Adira: The futon, according to reviews, is wider than a twin, smaller than a double, so I don't think DH and I could fit on it.

And I think we *could* hang out without the kids in option B - it'd just be either in the bedroom (which doesn't have a TV, but we could netflix on a laptop) or out on the patio.

I vote 2 bedrooms so you can have space to yourselves at night. If you're on vacation, I feel like not being able to play outside where you're staying isn't a big deal if you're gonna be out and about anyway.

What's the futon situation with B? Is it possible to move the crib into the bedroom and put both kids in there and then you guys sleep in the living room on the futon?? If that's a possibility, I would definitely do that! If it's not, I'd probably opt for A. Being able to put the kids down for the night in their own room and be able to hang out without them is totally key for my sanity! Unless you think you won't mind keeping them up later than normal and/or going to bed when they do!

DH and I are traveling to LA with our 2 boys who will be 1.5 and almost 4 at the time we go. We're staying for 4 days. I've narrowed it down to 2 places but I can't pull the trigger.

Place A: 2 bedrooms - a queen in each plus a crib. Living room and bigger kitchen. But its in an apartment, not on the 1st floor so no easy access to outside. The crib is the extent of family-friendly features.

Place B: 1 bedroom with a queen. Living room has sort of a futon, and a crib. Small kitchenette and dining area. The owners (who live upstairs) are dads with twin 2 yr old boys so they mention having lots of gear and toys including high chair, outlet covers already in place, changing table etc. There's a little playhouse on the patio right outside.

Both are pretty convenient to public transit and seem to be in good neighborhoods. I've never been to LA but my guess is A is slightly more convenient to the things we want to do but B may have more close by restaurants and things. My gut had been B because of the kid-friendliness, and maybe getting good recommendations from the hosts that we hadn't considered. But then I wondered if we'll really be kicking ourselves to not have the 2nd bedroom where we can tuck the kids away and hang out at night.
