Food is amazing and everything is so clean and modern. Love Hong Kong - spent a semester studying abroad there and would love to live there again for a short period except the air pollution has gotten so bad in the 10 years since I lived there. In China, I would actually go to Guilin - it's a very very popular tourist destination but so pretty. You take a river cruise through the mountains that are famous there and then you can do a bike ride through the countryside. I highly recommend HK and want to go back soon with the family. It's very easy to get around with signs in both English and Chinese. The food is amazing, and it has all the great things a big city can offer. There is entertainment for the kids and lots of sight seeing adventures too. I've been twice (once to the south, once to the north) and loved it all! Hill tribe trekking in Chiang Mai (north) was a great cultural experience and so much fun. Khao Sok National Park in the south was also amazing - we stayed in tree houses, went rafting on bamboo rafts, and explored amazing caves set in the most beautiful jungle. Amazing.</p> <p>I also loved China - I did a big trip there starting in Beijing in the north and making my way down to Hong Kong by the end. It was an amazing cultural experience but China is very much in your face in terms of pollution, population, and just general chaos! I've been many times since I have family there. It's a beautiful country with friendly people. I've also been to Cambodia, just to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat, which is phenomenal. Beijing was also very interesting, I just did it as a bus tour with family, but seeing the Great Wall of China was one of the most amazing sites I have ever seen. There is just so much to explore in Asia! My husband used to live in Malaysia and has been just about everywhere. His stories and photos make me so jealous! I would highly recommend it. It is worth it to venture north up closer to the border by Burma. It is the most peaceful part of the world.
