Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Definitely going with the soft body. OH says the rigid one looks creepy, which I guess it kind of does.

@dc yoga bee: Thanks for the pic! I saw a 20" doll that I loved for DD but the doll stroller and cradle only go to 18". 18" doesn't seem that big in the box but it is huge compared to the 12"!

@MamaCate: Good call! We did get her a cradle already.

Soft body! It’s more life like I feel...as life like as a fake doll can be. We got one for our 21 month old when her new sibling came. She didn’t care for it at all though. Haha. But she was too little for it I guess.

@PawPrints: @Ms. RV: all the accessories for our (many) dolls live in the baby crib. Might be worth thinking about if you are getting the doll! Also I vote for soft body.

@Ms. RV: I hadn’t actually realized she was small. My mom also got her a bigger doll, and it’s too big. The smaller one she can tote around better. I’ll take a picture for you. Pic added. She has both, and goes for the smaller one all the time and totes it around. The other one is a kings gate, and is 18”. It’s kind of cumbersome for her at 2.5.

@PawPrints: Yeah, she is totally only getting one or two accessories at a time.

Definitely soft body. My DD got her first one as a bday present at 12 months and took to it immediately and never stopped caring for it. Now she has a whole collection (grandma keeps finding more dolls on her Buy Nothing group) and cares for them all. I definitely think they're helping her prepare for the arrival of real-life baby brother.

Heads up though it will be really tough not to lose all those tiny accessories. The best accessory we have for DD's dolls is her doll stroller, which she uses constantly.

@Ms. RV: I think 12" is perfect. My daughter treats hers like a baby, so she likes that it is a little small. It also means she can carry baby and all baby's accessories and a couple of baby's animal friends at once :-P

@dc yoga bee: Does the 12" doll seem a good size for that age? They look so small in the store.

My DD is the same age, and we got her a soft body doll with accessories last Christmas. She LOVES baby, and baby rides in stroller, goes in carrier, etc...

DD is about the same age and she's had a soft bodied 12" Corolle doll since she was 1. She LOVES it and takes it everywhere. It's snuggly and easy to carry around. That ease plus accessories mean I definitely vote for the soft-bodied doll.

I like the first with all the accessories so your DD can “take care” of her doll.

DD will be 28 months at Christmas and we want to get her a baby doll. I can't decide on which one... a soft body one with a bunch of accessories or a rigid body one. I love how lifelike the rigid body one looks, but I don't know how well it will fit in the little doll stroller we got since it is hunched over. The softbody one looks easier to play with.

We are expecting #2 in June and hoping the doll will help prep DD for that. I know I am totally overthinking this but I blame pregnancy hormones.

ETA: The rigid body one has articulated arms and legs so it may sit in the stroller better than I thought. I still think the soft body one will be easier to play with, but the rigid one is so cute!
