I have the Butterfly II and I really like it alot! I've been using it almost daily since my DD was born 4 months ago. I love that there's a fabric panel between me and DD (less sweaty!). Plus the fabric panel is what allows you to take off the carrier with the baby still in it, and pass the baby onto someone else. I LOVE this feature of the Beco (which is something that alot of other carriers don't offer). This is especially useful when the baby is sleeping in the carrier and you want to hand the baby over to someone else. Without the panel, you'd have to take the baby out of the carrier and risk waking him/him up.

Let see...I love the patterns/designs that Beco offers (much more modern and stylish than Ergo IMO). And I like that it's not as bulky as the ergo. I'm 5'5" and it fits me perfectly. My husband likes it too (he said it's comfortable and he's 6 feet tall). With that said, I would recommend NOT getting a black one. It lints like crazy! If that doesn't bother you, then black will be ok. I personally can't stand the look of lint so I would've bought a different color if I could go back.

The forward facing option wasn't a game-changer for me because we planned on always having her face in. My ped strongly recommended against forward facing carriers. She said having the baby's legs dangle like that could be bad for the baby's back and spine. She said it's better for the baby's legs to wrap around your body for better support. There's a lot of information on the web about this, if you're interested in researching for yourself.

Hope that helped!

I LOVE my Butterfly II. I like having the panel between me and LO because it makes back carries easier. And it's saved my shirts from a lot of spit up so far :) We've never tried a carrier with LO facing out, and we don't intend to. I don't think she would care about it that much. She likes to be able to turn into me. Like pps said, you can't forward face in the Butterfly II, just the Gemini.

The butterfly doesn't forward face so that is why we chose the gemini. We most definitely breastfeed in the Beco and it's so easy. Some cons, it really doesn't seem as stable as they get bigger (I had a 2 1/2 year old in it the other day). My taller friend didn't get as good a fit as her ergo. The chest strap doesn't work very well it is often choking me. I also have a really hard time adjusting it.

But I wouldn't change getting the Gemini I love it for what we needed. My son had to face out as an infant.

@mrsjazz: Ok, cool, thank-you! LO is 4 weeks and likely 11lbs or so now, so it seems like I am leaning Gemini.

@Beebug: I started using the Beco Gemini when LO was about 3 weeks old (and almost 8lbs.) I think they mention crossing the straps in the back for comfort and weight distribution.

I love our gemini. It has a one year warrenty if you've had any problems with it. For us, the cords that keep the head rest up have worn a lot so beco is sending us a new one.

I have a Gemini, and the reason I purchased it over the Butterfly is due to the front carry option. However, I will say that I have really not used the front carry much since I had read you need to limit the time as not to overload their senses, and once LO gets bigger, front carry puts more strain on your back. I also had a ton of trouble getting the back buckle off, but I think that is true of a lot of carriers due to the safety mechanism. But it is a really well made carrier, and I was happy with the quality and design. I just didn't end up using it as much as I thought I would.

PS you can bf in these things? Say what! Tres cool.

What scenarios would having the hand-off option (perk of butterfly) I don't really know when I'd take advantage of this perk!

@mrsjazz: Link is amazing, thank-you!

The cross straps on back for front carry was mentioned in another post, and in that link....newbie here is clueless on why this is noted as a plus (for the Gemini)

@Beebug: OK then I'm definitely following this, since we seem to have the same reasoning. I can't see any real benefit to the Butterfly II other than being able to back carry without assistance and for up to 3 years old? I know I won't be carrying that long, and I'm more concerned about the front carry and the face in or out option, so I lean towards the Gemini. But I've used a carrier all of once with my friend's baby, so I'm watching here to see what others say.

@Foodnerd81: Ergo out because I want option to face baby forward :)

I have the Lucie's link open too, all I can gather is Gemini = easy on/off and cute patterns (and the perks over Ergo) and Butterfly II = internal harness, infant insert (but Gemini says it can be used from 7lbs?). I guess I don't understand the carriers enough to know the value in these differences/features?

I went with the Beco Gemini because of the 4 different ways to carry and the fact that I wouldn't need an infant insert.

Here is a comparison chart for the Beco Butterfly & Gemini:
http://www.quirkybaby.com/beco-butterfly-vs-beco-gemini.html

I wish they could combine some of the features! I mostly carry LO in the front facing me, but occasionally have her facing out. I want to try the hip carry soon. It's easy to breastfeed her in this carrier, I wish it came with a sleeping hood like the Butterfly but I'm pretty happy with the Gemini.

I was just going to post a question about this! Have you looked at Lucie's List? She breaks down some of the differences, but I'm interested in what people say about their experiences here.
Did you rule out the Ergo already? Could you say why?

Hi All!

Anyone have experience with Beco carriers (I did some searching, I know some of you do!) but I am not sure which one to look for?

Looks like Gemini or Butterfly II?

What are the differences?

I have been wearing my LO in a sling, and will continue to do so, but also want to transition to a carrier, and with cooler weather coming, I will need a coat more, and that's harder with the sling!

I like the Beco for the facing out option, LO is 4 weeks old now, and I hope to baby wear a lot, Beco carriers look like a great choice!

Any guidance is appreciated on which one! Or if it matters?
