My practical side says twin with trundle, but my emotional side says matching bed to what you already have.

But I do love those rooms that you see that are split down the middle and are decorated very differently!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @caterw: @Mrs. High Heels: this is a major reason for wanting the same bed. I would totally want them to match if they are in the same bedroom! :silly:

I voted slim profile twin. Sounds like your other two options are mainly out of consideration for hosting guests, but up til now you've seemed to make the sofabed work on its own, so I would choose what you love - especially if you plan to keep it for a long time! I also agree with what @caterw mentioned about wanting the two beds to match if there is potential for your two LO's to share a room in the future.

I love your space, and it sounds like this bed will fit right in with your current decor!

I picked the slim profile twin for two reasons.

1. If your kiddos have to share when you move, you will probably want the beds to match.

2. A low bed is better for transitioning out of a crib in my opinion. My DD fell out of a big girl bed while visiting her grandparents and got stuck in between the bed and the wall. If she falls out of her bed at home, she doesn't have far to go.

I voted trundle since even if you don't use the trundle as an extra bed you can use it for storage. My nephew has toys in his trundle bed.

Slim profile twin. I like the uniformity of two of the same beds in case of room sharing down the line.

@lamariniere: since space may become an issue down the road, I would go with option 2. We have a trundle bed in our guest room, which is very small. But the trundle has come in handy so many times. If you have guests, your DS1 could bunk with his sister, leaving his room open for guests (as well as the sofa bed). The full is an attractive option, but the kids may have to share a room down the road and a full and a twin in one room could be tight, depending on the size of the room. I vote option 2, then 3, then 1. 1 seems like stylistically what you want, but the least practical of the options.

I'll preface this by saying I'm totally over thinking it.

We are starting to think about transiting LO2 out of the crib. Currently, we live in a 3 bedroom apartment. We will be here at maximum 4 more years. This apartment is likely the largest place we will live in for the foreseeable future. When we move, the kids will most likely have smaller bedrooms or might even have to share a room. Of course, you can't foresee every situation but I would like the bed to last until LO leaves home. We have overnight guests maybe 5-6 times per year, but they stay anywhere from 3 nights to 2 weeks. We have one sofa bed for guests.

For simplicity's sake, let's say the beds are all roughly within the same price range.

Bed 1: twin, same model as LO1's bed (it's slightly narrower than a normal twin but over 6 ft long). Low to the ground with no possibility of storage or trundle bed under it. I'll add that I'm really in love with the style of this bed.

Bed 2: twin with a trundle option for occasional guests (in addition to the sofa bed).

Bed 3: full size bed (giving the full to LO1 and the old twin to LO2). We could potentially have a visiting couple sleep in the full, put their kids on the sofa bed and have LO1 sleep on the couch, or some configuration like that. But a full may not fit in a future smaller or shared bedroom.
