I have heard really good things about hygeia. Since it is a closed system, you could get one used as long as you get a new accessory set. For the medela, you need to get new. If you're really torn, you could see if you could get a hygeia used and get the medela through insurance.

I like that it has both speed and suction controls; it empties me much faster and feels more efficient.

@AprilK: That's great feedback knowing you have used both brands! Are there any specific reasons you prefer the Hygeia? Thanks !

Only used the hygeia and loved it! Easy to clean and figure out. Brought that thing all over the place as a wedding photographer and it got the job done!

I absolutely love my Hygeia and have only had good experiences with ordering from them (3 times in 2 years) and working with their customer service when I had questions and had to get new bottle converter rings shipped. The parts are FAR less extensive to clean than the Ameda (never used the Medela).

I love my Medela PIS. Haven't used anything else but as a FTM I found it easy to use and get started with.

I was choosing between them and Hygeia's customer service via email stunk when I was trying to ask questions. So, I went with Medela and didn't regre it.

I haven't used it yet, but I have @yin's old Hygeia that she sold to me. So I'm team Hygeia, at least for now :)

I have only used the Medela (I have the same one through insurance, I think-- tan bag?) I like it and find it easy to keep clean and easy to use, but have nothing to compare it to, and haven't busted open the motor to make sure it's clean or anything. I really like the letdown feature and how easy it is.

I have seen several posts recently asking about Medela vs. Ameda but with my insurance, I also have the choice of a Hygeia Q. I have ruled out the Ameda, so now my choices are the Hygeia Q or the Medela PISA. Here are a few of my pros and cons. Any advice, please?

I like the accessibility of Medela parts and accessories. It seems harder to keep clean than with a closed system pump. I like that there is an automatic let-down button as a FTM, I don't know if I'll be able to figure out how to induce letdown myself with the manual speeds on the Hygeia. With my insurance, it does not come with a bag or backpack.

What feedback I have heard about Hygeia has been great, but it doesn't seem like a lot of ladies have used Hygeia. I like that it is a closed system. Is it really easy to clean? If I can figure out the manual settings for let down I have heard you can get better results. I have heard most Medela parts fit Hygeia, but if not, I would have to order parts online.

I would appreciate any input, please! Bonus if anyone has used both a Hygeia and the PISA! Thank you!
