The Spectra all the way! The customizable settings increased my output by 75% compared to the Medela PISA I started out with, which was crucial because I ending up EP'ing.

Parts are available inexpensively from Nene supply on Amazon.

@MrsBrewer: By bag, I meant the freezer bags lol. But I tote mine around in a random Thirty-One bag my mom gave me years ago.

I am almost certain the freestyle and Pisa parts aren't interchangeable. I have a Pisa and pump into Dr Brown's glass bottles, you have to be a tiny bit more careful to make sure they are screwed on well and they are obviously heavier than any plastic options but it works. I just got a regular Dr Brown's bottle (plastic) and the package says it fits most pumps. My current plan is to get an S2 with this baby and keep it in the package so I can sell or donate it when I'm done, if I do need it though it's a closed system so someone else can still use it- but I sah and my pump needs are minimal.

One other option is I've heard of some people having success paying for the upgrade between pumps, child you call a medical supply place and see if that's an option for you? I'd prefer to have two of the same if I was carrying stuff back and forth from work. It would be great to only have one type of parts and leave one pump in each place.

@avivoca: oh boo! but yea, I don't mind putting it in a bag right away at all. I will just need to get a bag for it since the one offered by insurance doesn't come with a bag, boo! I'm assuming its the lowest/cheapest option.

@MrsBrewer: I use Playtex Nursers and I wasn't able to make it fit (womp womp). Oh well, I'm used to pumping into one bottle/bag and then transferring so it wasn't a big deal to me.

@avivoca: I read that you can use Dr Brown bottles with it, because they are wide mouthed! I used those with DD, I wonder if I could use those with the pump. I ended up ordering the S2! So we will see how it is! If I like it more than my Freestyle maybe I'll switch!

Spectra S2. I love it so much more than Medela. I find it quieter, more efficient, and easier to clean. It is the only pump that my coworkers can't hear on conference calls.

@MrsBrewer: I have the S2. It's pretty cool. Very quiet and I haven't had any trouble out of it. I love that I can use my Ameda parts without hacking anything. We do have a store where I can buy Spectra parts locally, but I like that I can use the 12 bottles and two sets of flanges that I have easily rather than getting an adapter (spectra parts are wide-mouth).

I haven't pumped in 2 years but I would definitely go with a Spectra. My S2 was magic compared to my PISA, but with baby #2 coming this summer I'm curious to hear if anyone has any experience with the Spectra 9. I'd initially heard it wasn't quite as powerful (due to the battery) but again, that was 2-3 years ago...

@catlady: Yep, I plan on still probably using my Freestyle this time. But I have a ton of extra parts for it, so I really don't need anymore truthfully! I'm interested in the Spectra S2, that one has great reviews!

@avivoca: Which Spectra do you have?

I have a Spectra and I really like it. You can also sub Ameda parts or hack your Medela parts to fit it. I had an Ameda last time and I do not recommend it.

If you like your old pump and plan to still use it, I'd get a Medela so you can use the same pump parts.

That said, I had an old PISA but I chose a Spectra this time around and I really like it. I ended up just buying a second Spectra out of pocket to have as my backup at home instead of bothering with the PISA.

I already have a Medela Freestyle that I had from DD1 that still works great! I'm pregnant with #2, an I'm able to get another pump (yay!) but the Freestyle isn't an option. Here are my options...

Medela PISA (no pump storage bag included)
Ameda Purely Yours
Freemie Freedom
Hygeia Enjoye
Spectra S2 Hospital Strength
Spectra 9 Plus Advanced
Tomy Quiet Expressions Plus

I have no idea which to get!
