The first one seems warmer for sure. Most importantly, it's waterproof.

I would go with the Lands End one too. Their stuff is made for cold. And my LO had a puffer coat like the Boden one last winter and could barely move - he hated it.

I agree with the Land's End verdict. I love buying from them when I am unsure about purchases too because they will stand behind their products if you're not satisfied. It's rare that I am disappointed though!

I bought L a lands end winter coat too. It says that coat is for -5 to 25 degrees F so I think that should suffice for our NYC winters! Plus I think of lands end as a more functional brand (e.g. waterproof, thin material yet still warm) and Boden is a fashion brand (looks cute but less functional).

The Land's End Squall one is wind and water-proof, which goes a long way to feeling warmer, plus it is less bulky, and has a storm flap to cover the zipper, which can get really cold and let in air.
It's lined with fleece, rather than padding that could clump up.
You can cinch the cuffs to keep snow out of the sleeves.
It's is reflective, so it is safer to wear at night or in poor visibility conditions- the other one is solid almost-black.

I like the silver/blue one better for looks anyway :P

@hilsy85: The description says "bulk free insulation," so I'm guessing there's something in it that keeps you warm without needing puffy!

@hilsy85: the lands end one is water proof, the other one is water resistant. I'd go with the first for that reason!

@hilsy85: I'd go for the Lands End- looks less bulky and much warmer. The Boden coat looks puffy and warm but its all polyester, so no down or anything to keep your LO toasty.

@lawbee11: lol! Your opinion still counts :silly:

@photojane: That's what I was leaning toward, but I Wasn't sure if puffy equals warmer...

I would prefer the Lands' End because it's thinner. It can be tough for a kid to maneuver in a huge coat like the Boden one. The LE coat is rated for as low as -5 degrees, so that seems like a winner!

Trying to decide on a winter jacket for LO. Which of these do you think is warmer? We're in NYC, so based on last winter and the polar vortex, it can get pretty cold and snowy here. We also go to upstate NY a lot, and it is even colder and snowier. I want something mainly that LO can wear to the park and walk on the street in, without being uncomfortable from bulk but also staying warm. Thoughts?
