Santa brought all of our gifts growing up and they were not wrapped. He also fills the stockings. We didn't get anything from my parents. I'm planning to do the same for my kids. Never thought about why some kids got different/bigger gifts from Santa so I'm not too concerned about it.

@TemperanceBrennan: These are my feelings 1000%. DH wants all gifts to come unwrapped from Santa. I grew up with some gifts from Santa, but the majority from parents. And At first I thought his parents were lazy to just have all the gifts out unwrapped 😂! I'm getting her the burlap sack next year, and whatever gifts can fit in that each year are from Santa. And those will be unwrapped. The rest are from us. No dear, that $250 gaming system didn't appear from a workshop. Mom and Dad work and earn money to pay for this stuff!

@sslm: same! We do the things that are too hard to wrap and/or she might not be excited about unless she sees them put together. This year Santa is doing her table and chairs, a slide, and some smaller items like coloring books.

We give the coolest gifts and Santa gives the rest. This year, that's mostly cause D was with me when I bought M's big gift, which means it comes from us and I want to give D an equally good gift from us.

@runnerd: So do you "do Santa" and just don't say any gifts are from him, or none of the gifts are from Santa at all?

@catlady: We don't wrap because they are usually big shiny stuff. Think the classic red tricycle under the tree with just a big bow on it. That's what we are doing with LO's kitchen this year.

These responses are so interesting because everyone has a different strategy. I never even considered not wrapping Santa presents (because my parents always wrapped ours).

I am liking the idea of Santa doing the stocking, or want/need/wear/read. Also love the special wrapping ideas!

I think this year everything is coming from Santa...he's just barely starting to grasp the concept of Santa, and I completely spaced out on considering special wrapping paper until after everything was wrapped, and I'm not un- and re-wrapping. I like the "want/need/wear/read" + maybe the stocking being from Santa, though.

Santa gives the unwrapped gifts and stockings. Last year it was a tent DH made plus a small toy each. This year is a train table plus some new trains and tracks. I can understand the reason behind Santa bringing smaller gifts. Maybe we'll start doing that next year but DS already asked Santa for the table so we'll just go with it this year.

I've always thought Santa could bring the large, coveted gifts but an IG post I saw this year really stuck with me. The gist was it doesn't make sense to give extravagant gifts from Santa to your son or daughter, whose friend at school might have only received a hat and mittens. We can explain the value of a dollar to our own kids but not Santa's discrimination. So now I'd like to do more modest gifts from Santa plus DH and I can now get credit for the "nicer" gifts. :)

Not that he knows or understands (he's 15months) but his Elmo and puzzle will be his gifts from us.

Growing up, we always got a couple of big gifts from Santa (plus the stockings). I think the bigger more exciting gifts coming from Santa adds to the magic. It isn't very exciting for Santa to come to the house if he only brings more negligible items.

My mom always used special wrapping paper for the Santa presents. It was usually more expensive shiny wrapping paper and was always different than anything else under the tree.

Growing up the need/wear things were from my parents and the want/read things were from Santa. I made the girls some gifts this year, so those are from us. Their big toys are from Santa, (but our budget isn't crazy, so even the big gifts aren't over the top). We definitely have different paper and tags and fake handwriting from Santa.

Growing up, Santa gave all the presents. I don't really feel a need to get credit, I like the magic of Christmas and if Santa brings a few small negligible things, it's not very magical to me.

DH and I were just talking about this the other day. Growing up, I don't remember there ever being a distinction between what gifts were from Santa and what was from my parents. I believe everything was from Santa and it never occurred to me that it would be strange that we got nothing from my parents. And when I talked with other kids about what we got for Christmas, I don't think it was ever discussed what presents were from Santa vs our parents so that's not a huge concern of mine. DH couldn't remember how it was done in his house growing up. To be honest, I never thought about this
