None of them. My parents did not really like their parents and were pretty clear about that. Their visits always felt like a disruption and an imposition. I guess that sounds sad, and maybe it bothered them, but to me they were just people I wasn't too close to.

My dad's parents! They raised me from 0-4 when my dad was getting himself together after his divorce from my mother.

I don't know my birth mothers parents very well as my mother and I don't have the best relationship :bummed:

My paternal grandmother and step-grandfather. We visited them regularly. There were a lot of bad family dynamics (still are) that kept us from being close to my mom's parents and my biological grandfather and step grandmother.

Both sets lived a few blocks apart 8 hours from our house. I was much closer with my maternal grandparents. We always stayed at their house growing up, they came to visit us every year or so. I moved not too far from their city after college and I visited them every two weeks or so until they passed on the same day.

My paternal grandparents were always too busy worrying about their six kids and one grandkid that they were raising. To get their attention you needed a drug addiction, police record, or mental illness. They were very proud of me and my brother but there was very little bond.

My mom's parents lived across the street from us , so we spent a ton of time with them and naturally became much closer. My grandpa passed about five years ago, which was really rough on everyone, but my grandma is alive and kicking and may outlive us all.

My dad's dad died when he was a teenager, and his mom, though wonderful in many ways, was a salty old broad who didn't try very hard to hide the fact the she favored his older sister and her children by extension (and female grandchildren in general). She also lived two states away, so distance was a factor. I learned a lot from her when we did spend time together, especially about our cultural heritage on my dad's side, and we had our own sort of special relationship that unfortunately my brothers didn't share, but overall we just didn't spend enough time together for her to have the same kind of impact. She also died five years ago, about three weeks before my grandpa (that was a difficult winter!).

I was very close to my mom's parents. We stayed with them while my parents were at work, and they were like a second set of parents to me. They also took us on vacations a couple times a year, and we slept over at their house a lot.

My dad's parents were the grandparents we only saw on holidays, and we never spent any time alone with them.

My dad's! We lived across the same lake and boated over all the time. Super fun! After my mum went nuts and left we stayed with them every weekend. After college I moved back here and we hung out a lot and took roadtrips until they passed.

My mum's parents passed in their 50s but I remember her dad, who lived a little longer.

My maternal grandmother. I regularly slept over (at least once a week) and she came on all of our family vacations. I'm the oldest of four girls, and she would take me for one on one time often, making me feel so special. She did that for each of my sisters, I have no idea how she found the time or energy. She passed away this summer and I miss her every day.

My mom is being that kind of grandma for my DD - picking her up from daycare early, having weekly sleepovers - I feel so lucky my daughter will get that special relationship too.

None of them. Three grandparents passed away before I was born. My remaining grandmother wasn't know for being warm or kind. I was never close to her. She just didn't care about her grandchildren.

I was close to both my grandmothers and saw them both regularly. We spent most weekdays at my mom's mom's house growing up, so she was more like a second mom, as far as discipline, etc. My dad's mom spoiled us rotten, so I sort of idolized her more, got excited to go over there. Both of my grandfathers died when I was a toddler, so I don't remember them.

My dad's side, we spent most of our summers out on their farm with our cousins. We would stay days/weeks at a time if our parents let us. My maternal set lived in another state, so we didn't see them as much. I just lost my paternal grandfather last week and it's still hitting me at almost 30, he was such a great man.

My dad's dad died before I was born, and his wife died when I was six. I've heard we got along well and I remember going there every Saturday night when all my aunts/uncles/cousins would go there for dinner, but I have virtually no memory of her, besides hazy ideas that she was there.

I was very close with my mom's stepdad, but he also died when I was six, but I specifically remember lots of things that we did together, and feel like we were close. My mom and I went to their house all the time, and he'd always "forget" to eat his cookies from his lunchbox at work and give them to me when he got home. My mom's mom is my last living grandparent and we always have been very close. We were even roommates when I was in college.

After that, my mom's mom, whom we visited in Japan for a summer when I was in elementary school and later when I studied abroad in college. A big part of why I studied Japanese was so that we could talk without a language barrier.
