We went through many chairs for DS2. We splurged and had a Trip Trap for DS1, but we lost a few screws somehow and it was no longer safe for DS2 (he weighed 36 lbs at a year). We got a Fisher Pricebooster seat, but he managed to push against the dining table and fall backwards so we stopped using that.

Now we use a restaurant style high chair. It’s super sturdy and easy to clean. We highly recommend it!

I would go with a hair chair that has no cloth/ fabric. Target has a great one i think by ingenuity that has wheels and later converts into a booster or tray-less high chair

I'd go for the IKEA chair instead. It has a small footprint and is easy to move. The seats of both your choices look hard to clean.

@HappyBaker: We used from exactly 6 months on. We actually sat her in the chair before that just to let her play while we eat too and it was fine. You can always stuff a towel or a cushion behind/around her for a week or 2 until she's solid enough to sit by herself. The sitting thing happens so quickly I don't see it being an issue.

These were my top two choices as well. I went with the Joovy because it was cheaper. DS was never a big fan of it because he hated high chairs in general. We stopped using it after six months and started using the Fisher Price Space Saver instead.

@HappyBaker: I didn't get the Ikea chair until LO was about 10 months old. But I just looked back and at 7 months I had him sitting in the Lobster chair at the island... He was sitting up by then, but I can remember stuffing towels in on his sides to help prop him up in case he got tired

@HappyBaker: I can see how they are the same size when opened and in use but the difference is you can't fold the OXO while you can fold the Nook! For us, we used to just put her highchair in the corner so we didn't really need to fold it so it depends how much you value the "foldability"

@snowjewelz: I just looked up the dimensions and they are actually about the same size! I think I need to go to a store to see how big these really are or measure it out in my kitchen, all high chairs seem ginormous!

@Jennibenni: oh that is great feedback, thank you!

@Becky: good to hear! thank you!

@hellobeeboston: yes supposedly both covers can be removed and washed (though that would be pain I guess!)

@peachykeen: @hellobeeboston: What age did you start using the Ikea high chair? DS is turning 6 months but really not sitting independently at all so I'm not sure if he would be able to sit in it very well, which is why I was leaning toward something comfier / recline-able! The price is definitely right for the Ikea version, especially since this is our last kid!

From personal experience with a "traditional" cushioned high chair, I recommend the Ikea one. We kept all our baby stuff from DD1 (they're 3 years apart) but sold/gave away the high chair because it was SO annoying/impossible to clean. The Ikea one is so much better! We've been using it 8+ months now and we do baby-led weaning so it gets MESSY. You can also get a little silicone mat to put on top (not sold by Ikea - I think we got it from Etsy) so you don't have to remove the tray each time.

@snowjewelz: thanks... my "baby" is 3 now though and we're long past the high-chair days... It was crazy I saw them ALL THE TIME when I didn't need one. But when I was on a serious hunt for one there was nothing! Oh well.... my $20 Ikea highchair was perfect, and I loved the look of it :)

I would be worried about that cloth material - can it go in the washing machine? It will be wrecked! We had a hand-me-down highchair with my first, and you couldn't remove the cushions on it, it was leather too, but it got GROSS, even with cleaning after every meal.

For our second I went with the IKEA high-chair which I actually loved... but I had been on the hunt for a used Stokke Tripp Trapp chair, but couldn't justify the price for our second and last baby.

I have the OXO Seedling and looooove it. I would never get a chair without wheels again. Other bonuses: easy to wipe clean cover that’s also easy to remove, lay flat tray, it has a tray on top of the tray (does that make sense?) so you don’t have to was the whole tray—just the cover, AND the tray hangs on the back of the chair which seems little but was a HUGE help. I thought I wanted a folding high chair but i don’t know when I actually would have folded it since we had to use it a few times a day.

I have used everything Joovy (pack-n-play, high chair, etc.) and LOOOVE everything from the company. I love the ease of the swing tray, as well as, how streamlined it is.

I have the nook and the more I use it the more I dislike it. The swing out tray is really nice and that is my favorite thing. But now that my son has started more self feeding and making more of a mess, I’ve found it difficult and annoying to clean. The pleather is wipeable but there are a lot of seams and the thread and edging get stained. It’s hard to get all of the food out of the nooks and crannies of the seat bottom. There are lots of areas on the plastic where the tray attaches that get gross. It’s just a daily annoyance.

Just from the pictures the foot print of the OXO looks really big so I'd prob get the Nook as long as it really is that easy to fold so you're really folding it away after each meal.

I didn't use either one, but I have loved all of my Joovy products. Wheels aren't really necessary with how light they are, and it made it too easy for my son to push it all over the house.

I need to order a high chair for my almost 6 month old - for my other 2 kids we just used the plastic Fisher Price Space Saver that clips onto a chair, but now I don't want to use one of our dining chairs for the high chair because we frequently need all our dining chairs and spaces at our table.

I'm deciding between the Joovy New Nook and the Oxo Tot Seedling. The Nook is super easy to fold and has a swing out tray, while the Seedling has wheels. We've never used a standalone high chair - which would you buy? I was thinking we'd just push it in a corner when not in use, so would probably want wheels...but if folding it is so easy maybe I'd do that?
