What about LBI? I adore Harvey Cedars, there is a small beach with a very calm bay that's fenced off and perfect for kids. I believe if you rent a house there, they usually include the beach passes.

Another vote for Cape May- I just took a trip there a few weeks ago. I love how you can park your car when you get there and not need it again until it is time to leave.

We're a Cape May family - I'm going this weekend! I love that you can stay for an entire week, have plenty to do, and never have to get in the car once.

I think Ocean City would be good for the kids because of the boardwalk. Though, you could make a day trip out of it.

Sea Isle is nice and quieter than OC but not the quietest of beach towns. I've stayed there a bunch of times.

I do like going Stone Harbor for their cute town. What I would do for some Springer's ice cream right now.

My sister has a camper outside of Wildwood but I don't like Wildwood because you have to walk a mile (exaggerating) to get to the water. My sister has a boat and 2 jet skis that they take to Wildwood crest to enjoy. There's a small sand bar called Champagne island that is exclusive to boaters and jet skiers. It's nice to have a beach that's not too crowded.

@tequiero21: I think it may have been where we stayed. There was nothing around us within walking distance and we had to drive to the boardwalk area. And I really didn't like the boardwalk that much either - it seemed very "Jersey Shore" (like the show) to me. But don't go by me, I'm also not a beach person and was dragged here on a family vacation. ;) Cape May was more my speed.

Ocean City!! We're heading down on tomorrow night.... very family friendly, safe, clean beaches, nice restaurants in and around town, we stay near the gardens (north end) Quick walk to the boardwalk and Asbury Ave. easy to park, near the supermarket, and just over the bridge to a dog beach in Longport.

I would say Ocean City, Cape May, Stone Harbor or Avalon. Ocean City is known as a family spot. It is a dry town (but there is a good liquor store right outside town), there is a fun boardwalk. We went there last summer and I found it easy with a baby- would have been easier if baby liked to sleep there but can't blame that on the town!

@tequiero21: we just got a shore house in Long Branch :-) We'll be there all summer.
We really think Long Branch is a hidden gem. It has a great little "downtown" area with little restaurants, and lots of other restaurants in driving distance. Pier Village shops (which are just OK but still something to do). The beach is nice. It's about 5-10 mins from Asbury which has a nice boardwalk with restaurants, mini golf, a water "park" for kids. Monmouth Park & Racetrack is about 5-10 mins away and they always have different food festivals (BBQ & Craft beer, for example) and events. And it's a horse racetrack so you can go and see the horses up close when they line up to come out. Mini golf there too.

Maybe for bigger kids though Point Pleasant is good? We went last year just for a day and there is the more traditional boardwalk scene with rides and games. It's not what we need right now but I could see for 2 & older how it could be good.

@tequiero21: I grew up going to Ocean City, NJ and loved it! Family friendly, nice boardwalk, etc... But I know I'm biased towards that. I second that Stone Harbor and Cape May are very nice too! I've never visited them with kids though. Cape May has a free zoo that we always go to... It's about 30 min away from where we'd stay in Ocean City

Spring Lake is beautiful and has some really nice Bed & Breakfast's. There is also a downtown with little shops and restaurants. It's also close to Point Pleasant, which has a boardwalk with rides and an Aquarium. Neighboring towns are also nice: Avon, Manasquan, Sea Girt.

We go to Stone Harbor every year. It's less of an attraction and more of a town. There is a downtown with cute shops and restaurants. It's a 25 min drive to ocean city as well, if you wanna go on the boardwalk. It's our fav!

We love wildwood crest & cape may which are right next to each other. Wildwood is super family friendly. Their beaches are free and huge. And they have a huge boardwalk with 3 piers. Lots of hotels. Wildwood Crest is the area a bit more south and we stay there because it's nicer. Lots of condos to rent. Cape may is even more south and the last town on the shore. It's SO CUTE. Lots of Victorian bed & breakfasts. They have a great downtown area with shopping and cute restaurants. Love!
