@skipra: @kaykay: I might start threatening to put the mosquito cover (just a thin piece of mesh with elastic at the edges) over DD2 if she keeps being a pest. KIDDING....but just barely! :) :)

@Truth Bombs: Thanks - you're absolutely right, DD1's interactions with DD3, who is RF on the other side of her, are much more positive, and I'm thrilled that she's able to help with the baby by entertaining her, helping her find a paci, or even giving a bottle!

My DD1 and DD2 both sit fwd facing next to each other (DD1 in the middle spot), and DD2 annoys her ALL the time. So you may find it gets slightly better when you flip, but it probably won't be good! They seem to always find ways to annoy each other, no matter what ;)

I think it's much easier for them to interact (negatively or positively) if they are facing opposite directions. We actually have the opposite situation. My daughter and son are right next to each other with her FF and him RF. He can get fussy in the car sometimes and I love that she entertains him and they hold hands, make funny faces at each other, etc. I'm not looking forward to when I switch him and they can't look at each other as easily.

We have the same exact problem and DS2 is usually the one causing the problems. Poor middle children, already acting out! Sorry no advice but curious to hear others' experiences too.

My kids sit three across in my SUV. DD1 (5) and DD2 (3) sit next to each other, with DD1 FF and DD2 RF. Several times a week, we have an issue with DD2 pestering DD1 by sticking her feet over into DD1's car seat space, directly into her face. Much whining and squealing ensues. I typically like our car seat layout, but I do wonder what will happen when we turn DD2 FF....if this type of behavior is bound to get better, or if turning the seat will exacerbate the situation.

Which do you think is worse for kids who sit directly next to each other pestering each other (that is, which way is it easier for them to get in each other's space)- facing different ways or facing the same way?
