I did all the bloods and ultrasounds myself, and hubby was ALWAYS there for transfers. That's the only thing I was strict with, hehe.

My DH really only went to the major stuff like consultations, egg retrieval and transfer. I didn't see the need for him to have to skip work just to be there for an ultrasound or blood draw.

@bluestriped bee: I think you just need to make sure it has enough time to travel down :). I always started drinking right after leaving the acupuncturist, but my procedure office was a bit further away (45 mins) and my transfer didn't happen immediately upon arrival (whereas yours might?)

@momazon: Oh, they told me to arrive at 10:45a, so only one time was given to me. I have an acupuncture appt before the transfer. So I will have to drink before the acupuncture or drink it while I'm going over to the clinic. What would happen if I drank the water like 30 minutes before I arrive? You think that's okay?

@bluestriped bee: My office says to drink 16-20 oz of water, starting at 75 minutes before transfer time and drinking it in 15 minutes so you're done 60 mins before transfer. That's always been perfect for me, without making me too uncomfortable during the procedure. (Make sure you're doing it to the actual transfer time, if they give you two times like 9:30 arrival for a 10:00 transfer.)

My husband came to all RE consults, plus my HSG, 2 out of 3 of the IUIs, all egg retrievals and embryo transfers, and "loss" appts like an ultrasound to confirm miscarriage. I'm glad he's going with you tomorrow- for me, it was always a really special and emotional appt, and it was great to experience those with my husband.

@spaniellove: @bluestriped bee: I used the bedpan last transfer with DH sitting next to me. The nurse said she wanted me to use it so I could completely relax while I layed there. It wasn't too awkward until DH told me he looked at it when the nurse took it away and couldn't believe how full it was!

@bluestriped bee: on the next two transfers, i just sipped a 16 ounce bottle of water about an hour before I was scheduled (instead of 3 bottles two hours beforehand). that seemed to do the trick. oh, and if you are a nervous type like me, i highly recommend the valium.

@spaniellove: @bluestriped bee: omg, on my first transfer, i WAY overfilled my bladder. and i just kept peeing and peeing and peeing until i overfilled the bedpan. it was awful! lesson learned. i am still convinced that was one of the reasons why my first transfer failed. i remember my uterus contracting because i had to pee so badly!

@bluestriped bee: If it's at all possible, you might like to have DH there because emotionally it is different from an IUI. You've been down a long road getting to this day and if he can make it you guys should experience this together. My DH was there, and witnessed the horror of me using a bedpan.

@bluestriped bee: I think in your first option you mean "egg retrievals" instead of "embryo retrieval," no?

DH has had a very demanding job with pretty much no vacation/sick time, so he only came to the first consultation, the egg retrieval and the embryo transfer. We did TIs and IUIs, but I brought in the sample myself, and I was fine with that.

@mrswin: I had to google what PUPO (pregnant until proven otherwise) was. Haha, not up to the lingo. I like that. I did already put my transfer date into an IVF calendar and know my EDD. It's so exciting but I also have to try not to get too excited.

I think I want him there and maybe since he's been busy with his cousin in town, I don't think he's thought about it. He is probably thinking (like me) that since he didn't come to my IUIs that he shouldn't have to go to the transfer. I think we both need to re-read the transfer procedures tonight to make sure we are prepared.

@bluestriped bee: My SO went to very few of my appointments with me because of his work schedule. For our IUI's he would drop off the sample and then head to the office, I would go in later for the procedure. During our IVF cycle he came to the initial consult, the retrieval and the transfer. I wanted to have him there for the transfer (even though it was basically the same as an IUI) because I was officially "PUPO" that day and it was important to me to share that experience with him. It's totally up to you what you decide.

ETA: Sending you lots of :goodluck:

@spaniellove: Oh, fancy screen! I'm not sure what will happen but I know I'll be in the room with the IVF incubator chambers and that room has an ultrasound. I'll see if DH wants to come back for that. (I'll ask my RE, too.) Did your DH go back for your transfer?

@meganmp: Oh, yeah, maybe I won't be able to drive since I'm suppose to be given Vallium, too. I have an acupuncture appt right before & after my transfer, so either DH will have to drive me. Our guests do know that we have an important IVF appointment, so maybe they won't mind hanging out at the house until we get back. Probably should have thought of this this weekend instead of the day before my transfer. Haha.

He went to just about every appointment with me, because it worked with his schedule. If bloodwork/ultrasound appointments didn't work for his schedule, he didn't go, and he didn't go to my second beta after the BFP. He went with me to transfers because a) he wanted to be in the room when I got pregnant:) and b) I needed someone to drive me home because of the Valium. Transfers are a big deal, I think, even if it's not medically a big thing, it is emotionally.
