I have the same thoughts on bfing as you do. DS never got it and its been one hell of a time.
Get the free style!!! Omg. So convenient....I can clean and walk around with it instead of being close to an outlet all the time...it's small & light so I connect the pump to my nursing bra & stick the motor into the wide pockets of my fuzzy house robe. So awesome...
It's making my exclusive pumping life very easy (& possible!). Regarding feeding & pumping: with the freestyle, you can clip it to your jeans and then make baby's bottle and feed them with no problems. You dont have to feed THEN pump like others do. Just don't bend over too far down or the pump could detach from your breast...so if LO is in a bouncer on the floor- you'll have to get down low to get him instead of just leaning down.

I used the PIS with DD #2. I loved it and had no problems with it what so ever.

I got the Freestyle for #3 just so I can be up and moving around, I haven't used it yet, but am pretty excited about it!

I also use the Pump in Style and I would recommend it. The one thing I never considered about exclusive pumping is that while you aren't chained to LO for feeding, you are a slave to your pump and if nobody else is around to help feed, it now takes twice as long since you have to spend 20 min pumping then however long to feed.

I have the Freestyle and LOVE it! Its so nice to pump hands free and not tied to a wall outlet. The Freestyle is super small, so its very easy to take to and from work (or lug around the house). I've used it for 6 months now, pumping multiple times a day and the suction is so good, I've never gone past level 4 (out of 10 or 12 levels).

FWIW - I think building a stash is the smartest thing for BF moms to do. It buys you peace of mind and freedom. Suddenly you can leave your baby with out worrying they will starve or hysterically cry because they are hungry and you're at the grocery store.

Good luck!

I would go for a double electric!

The PIS is great, however, I went for the Freestyle. A girlfriend borrowed mine and exchanged her PISA for a Freestyle because she loved it so much.

I think if you are home a lot with LO, being able to pump hands free is key. Technically, the pump is the same (freestyle and PISA). However, the batteries are different and my friend said that she could never get a great charge and suction on the PISA battery but loved the Freestyle battery.

For me, 100 times worth it to get the Freestyle, plus the gift card you have will cover it and the free gift is almost the difference in cost between the two!

I have the pump in style and really like it so far. I like the ability to be able to pump both breasts at the same time since I usually pump after feeding LO.

The pump in style was recommended to us by the LC at the hospital :) If we buy one, that's the one we would get.

I have the Swing and love it, but if you're seriously considering exclusively pumping, I would definitely invest in a double pump.

I used the PISA. I LOVED it. I used it at least 3x a day from about 5 days old to 1 year old. No complaints besides the fact that I had to carry a whole separate bag to work daily. Ive also heard great things about the Freestyle. I dont think Ive heard of the Swing.

I have a Pump in style by Medela. It is worth it in my opinion to "get a break" from your LO and to know that you can take a break every once in awhile. Also helps establish/add to your stash!

Hi!

I was recently gifted a Medela Swing breast pump.

After doing some reading, I am not sure this would be the best pump based on reviews and potential amount of use!

It is still sealed and returnable, I also have a $250 giftcard for BRU I could use if I return the swing, and use that returned amount, plus gift card, and purchase either a Freestyle or Pump in Style, (or??)

I have a coupon for a free medela bf'ing starter kit ($125 value, I figure I was going to buy it after getting the Swing?) if I purchase the Freestyle -not sure if that's any incentive to go that route!

I am currently ebf'ing with a 3 week old, getting to a point where I am in awful pain, and d-e-s-p-e-r-a-t-e to be able to catch a break and "get away" for more than an hour or two. Mentally I am very 'over' bf'ing for the pain and feeling chained to LO, and not opposed to the thought of exclusively pumping (I thought that's what I'd do pre LO arrival!) I hope to pump to build a decent stash, and of course this is our first baby, so future use is quite likely!

PS I don't mean to sound so awful when I say chained to LO! DH is not home a lot, so when I can catch a break.....I want that break and don't want to feel there are limitations to it!

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!
