@abbylyn: I dropped my infant optics ones and it started making a horrible screeching sound and the vox/automute never worked on it. The display got sort of messed up when it dropped too but still usable. I just replaced it with the Motorola thus weekend. I could not deal the with screeching noise!

Ok, I received the Infant Optics one above and the Levana 32111 Jena Digital Baby Video Monitor as shower gifts, and I'm trying to figure out which to keep and which to return. Anyone have experience with either of them? Or should I return them both and get something else? I'd like to stay in the same approximate price range, if you have suggestions.

We have the Motorola and love it. Comes in so handy for keeping an eye on them. Since we have twins, we have two cameras and I like how we were able to pair them to rotate views on the same monitor. A video monitor is a MUST!

We have the Infant Optics baby monitor. It is about $60-$100 less than the other, more popular, models. But it works great for us. Our home is about 1900sqft and we never have interference or signal problems. It is ridiculously easy to set up - you literally plug it in and go - so we actually bring it with us when we travel! It's simple and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive ones, but we didn't feel like we needed all of that.

I went audio-only for a long time. Phillips AVENT DECT ones are great. But I just broke down and got a video monitor since we have no. 2 on the way and I have a toddler who isn't contained in a crib anymore, and you can't monitor two rooms via one parent unit with audio-only.

We have the Foscam and I love it. It is hard to set up though so I would only recommend if you are tech savvy -- or know someone who is! And yes, you NEED a baby monitor. We live in a ONE bedroom and I didn't think I needed one and went six months without. Once LO was getting more mobile in her crib I wanted to see what she's doing in there! It's a MUST HAVE. I can't believe I went so long without one.

We love our motorola!!

the only downside is the short battery life so we have it plugged in the kitchen before we go to bed.

We hate our Motorola. We have the Foscam that we need to set up and have heard nothing but great things on here. But it's near impossible to set up with a Mac.

Finishing up my registry, and looking for recs on which monitor to put on there. We live in a large two bedroom apartment, and my mom swears up and down I don't need a monitor, but I'm not convinced. If I'm in the kitchen (and I do spend a lot of time in the kitchen), I wouldn't be able to hear baby from her room unless she was screaming, for example. Thoughts? Recommendations? Models to stay away from?
