Thanks for all of the advice. I think I'll be erring on the side of caution here. @PixieStix: @FoodNerd81: You're right. Better to have him smiling and comfortable, rather than upset by constricting clothing. It's been really hot here this week, so the formal outfit might be too much for him, anyway. I'll gauge it off his comfort level, but maybe just take a picture of him in the formal outfit at our hotel for my aunt to see.

@RegberaDaisy: He looks really cute in the bowtie onesie. He wore it for his passport photo, and looked like a little Winston Churchill, complete with double chin. Much cuter, though!

I'd go with comfy. You're probably holding him a lot so people won't see his pants much anyway! And prob can't tell what kind of pants in pics, aside that it's dark!

I'd go with the second option. Better to have a comfortable, happy baby than one who may get fussy in a more complicated outfit. Happy baby = happy guests. :P

The bow tie one is cute too!!! You're not directly related or in wedding party, no need to be formal. People will think he's cute irregardless. ;)

@Astro Bee: I love that bow tie one!

So, if you don't care about actually using the formal one, in that case I wouldn't bother. It does seem uncomfortable. I think the hipster one would be fine, or a polo with some khaki pants or something. He's an infant, people are just going to think he's adorable in anything- and he will be much cuter happy in a plain onesie than crying in an uncomfortable outfit.

Other polo/onesie options are below. They all seem a little casual, though. More in line with the cute, but comfy route.

@Astro Bee: Aw thanks 😊. Yeah the outfit was comfortable but still dressy. And the shirt was just like a grown up button down, but it had the snaps at the bottom.

I would use the formal outfit for the ceremony and find something else for the reception, if even just a solid-color onesie. I think the printed-on suspenders are extremely casual.

@ShootingStar: Okay, so it's just like a regular grown-up button-down, with a onesie attachment at the legs? It's really cute, and would be great for a wedding - dressed up, but not uncomfortable. Also, your son is absolutely adorable!

@Astro Bee: Here's a picture of the outfit. It's a button down shirt that snaps at the bottom like a onesie. As you can see it's long sleeve, but if it had been warm I would have just rolled up the sleeves. I understand not wanting to buy anything special for the occasion. I think I got the shirt on clearance at Carters and the pants he already had.

@Mrs. Tiger: Ha, nope! SIL was over for dinner last night. I had put him in the onesie bc it was our anniversary. So she's already seen him in it, and we are off the hook!

@RegberaDaisy: @Mrs. Oatmeal: @Mrs. Champagne: @FoodNerd81: The formal outfit was bought by my aunt, who won't be at the wedding. Neither will SIL, so no one would be the wiser, unless they saw pictures. I'm a little worried that DS would fuss in the formal one. But then, he might be fine. The formal one is sized 6/9 months, and I assume that it was meant for Christmas. But LO is already wearing 9-month onesies and footsies. I doubt it would still fit him by Christmas.

@ShootingStar: Do you have a picture of the button-down onesie? Is it long-sleeved or short? I just can't picture it. That being said, I don't want to buy another outfit. We are also not family, so wouldn't be in any of the formal pictures. I've never even met the bride!

@Mrs. Tiger: The tie isn't printed on, but attached. The suspenders are printed on. It's kind of hipster, actually; but so is my SIL, who bought it. We have some polos that might be appropriate for a back-up. I'm trying to avoid buying an additional outfit, that he might never wear again. He's growing so fast!

I wouldn't go with either. The first is way too dressy for me to put on a 5 month old, and a the 2nd one is too casual. When my DS was 10 months, my brother got married. I got him a blue striped button down onesie and paired that with gray pants.

Will you ever use the formal one otherwise? And will the gift giver of that one be at the wedding? I feel like you may as well use it for the ceremony so at least you get to use it once, then change into the comfy outfit. Bring pjs as a backup.

That said if he wakes up and is cranky and not having it, I wouldn't force the fancy outfit.

Cute but comfortable! I hate putting babies in overly dressy clothes that aren't comfortable if I don't have to. You're just a guest, not immediate family and not in the wedding party so go cute but comfortable!

DS is 5 months old, and will be attending a wedding with us on Saturday. None of us are in the wedding party, and are attending as guests of the groom.

We were given two outfits by family, but not for this specific event. One is a formal outfit, with a button-up shirt and clip-on tie, with a vest and polyester pants. The other is a cotton onesie with a cotton tie attached to it. The suspenders are printed on. I'd pair it with the black jeggings pictured.

The second option would be much more comfortable for LO, but the first is probably more wedding appropriate. The ceremony is at a church, and the reception is at a private golf course/club. If I went with the third option below, I'd need to bring a yet third outfit (as a backup for spitups, diaper leaks). What do you think?
